Holden, Toyota & Ford Issue Recalls For Brake Related Problems

Recall Orders Sent Out For Faulty Top Models

Australia's three biggest car brands have been issued with a recall for brake-related problems.

Separate potential problems affect Ford, Toyota and Holden.

Ford has warned up to 200,000 Falcons are at risk of rear brake failure.

The models affected are BA Falcons from September 2002 through to the BF Mark II, released in March this year.

Drivers of affected vehicles will feel the brake pedal go soft, accompanied by a warning light on the dash.

Toyota is recalling 134,513 imported LandCruiser 70 and 100 Series and sister Lexus LX470 models built from September 1997 until December 2005.

Bolts holding the front disc brake rotor could loosen under severe conditions such as repeated braking on steep hills and rough downhill driving.

If a bolt becomes loose, other bolts take the load and they, too, could come loose.

The driver is likely to hear an abnormal noise; but if no action is taken, says Toyota, the disc will dislodge from the backing plate.

Toyota says the vehicle will have braking from the other three wheels.

GM Holden is recalling more than 12,000 cars to fix a potential brake hose problem.

Testing by Holden at its proving ground revealed that brake fluid could leak from a hose on all-wheel-drive models, leading to reduced braking effectiveness.

It would not mean a total loss of brakes.

Owners of affected models are being contacted by GM Holden and asked to take their cars to a Holden dealer for a 40-minute job, at no cost to the owner.

A total of 12,871 cars sold in Australia are subject to the recall, all of them all-wheel-drive models made since late 2003 until now.

They include the Holden Adventra, Crewman Cross-6, Crewman Cross-8, One-Tonner Cross-6 and the HSV versions Avalanche and Avalanche XUV.

Re: Holden, Toyota & Ford Issue Recalls For Brake Related Problems

Brake problems aren't good on any car but at least the Holden recall doesn't seem to be for a dangerous fault and it only involves a small amount of cars when compared to the Toyota & Ford recalls. The one that I see as the most worrying is the Toyota one as anything that involves fasteners coming loose on brake components can have dire consequences.

That's got to go down as the quote of the year! What if the wayward bolt gets caught up between the rotor & caliper and causes the wheel to lock up. Even if it doesn't imagine trying to pull up a Landcruiser with one front brake in-active, it'd pull like a thirteen year old boy! I also find it disturbing that it's taken so long to find.

You forgot about the Camry as well..........

Toyota recalls Camry

Problem: Some 145,000 examples of the superseded Camry are affected.

Toyota's previous-generation Camry has been recalled due to faulty headlights

8 June 2007

TOYOTA Australia has issued a recall notice for its Camry after it was found that the headlights, on either low or high beam, "could flicker without warning and, in the worst case, may cause the headlamps to extinguish momentarily".

According to Product Recalls Australia, the headlamp switch contact points could, over time, corrode because of insufficient current flow through the switch. It is this oxidation that could cause the lights to malfunction.

The recall affects around 145,000 Camry models, built between June 2002 and May 2006. GoAuto understands that about 100 cases have been reported, but that no accidents have occurred as a result.

This is getting ridiculous.

Toyota has to many re-calls now.

Toyota's quality has really slipped.

Is there a website anywhere that keeps track of all of Toyota's recalls?

Re: Holden, Toyota & Ford Issue Recalls For Brake Related Problems

Holden has also recalled the new Commodore for fuel line and seat belt problems. Hopefully they'll get all this sorted by the time the G8 arrives in the US...

Honda, Toyota, Ford, GM, DC, etc. have all had their share of major recalls in recent years. Sad to say it, but it seems that's the way things are these day. It seems no one is immune. Lots of pressure on suppliers and manufacturers as a whole to deliver on time and on budget. This affects everything from initial design to final assembly. Problems can crop up anywhere...
