Holden Spruiks Active Fuel Management, But When Will It Actually Arrive?
Displacement & Demand
James Stanford 29 April 2008 www.goauto.com.au GM Holden spruiks Active Fuel Management on TV, but is yet to make it available. The car-maker is using a new brand-building TV advertisement to announce that it will be introducing its Active Fuel Management, commonly known as displacement-on-demand, which shuts down half an engine’s cylinders when cruising. This feature, which has already been made available by Chrysler and Honda, is not currently available on any Holden cars and the company has made no announcement as to when it may arrive. Holden sources suggest the displacement-on-demand technology, which will only be made available for the V8 engine, will arrive at some stage this year. The company could be planning to introduce the feature within months, given it has promoted the feature in advertisements. Re: Holden Spruiks Active Fuel Management, But When Will It Actually Arrive?
I would have thought that since they were fitting it to the Pontiac G8's, that it would be relatively simple to offer it on Australian vehicles. The compliance reg's wouldn't be enourmously different since ADR's are progressively disappearing. It would also improve the efficiency of the production line when they are only installing only one version of the same engine.

Should come with the new 6 speed manual soon.
Be the updated version like fords new manual. Be nice to offer something like this with the new DI V6.

The G8 just needs a Nav screen and probably a DI V6 along with a 6 speed auto (currently uses 5 speed auto) and a 6 speed manual for the V6 and V8.
Come on GM !!!!! |

It will be good when they finally offer this here, Holden need to show that they are commited to cars that offer good economy to as well as being seriously fast, I wonder if Holden will use the additon of DoD as a way to intorduce a Series 11 VE or if they will go with VF but which ever way they go the update should be mostly about fuel economy gains so they dont fall behind the new falcon and the aurion |

The blokes on Ford Forum are happy the V8 is only a few .04-.08 behind the XR6T for econemy. I can't see why people can't be happy with a 10.7l/100 Commodore omega with 4 speed auto still!. It's only slightly more then a 5 speed Falc or 6 speed Falc. When i was away in the Calais V6 my trip of over 1200km was 9.2lt/100, Highways hills and more hills i beat the **** out of the car and it never failed me on econemy. I was passing cars in the tight back highways with only 1 lane @ 170 at times to get around slow arse trucks doing 40-60 up massive hills. When you hire a car you drive it like you stole it:p. Just don't crash or get finned .But i find people who bought them get better fuel econemy then car mags. I'd love to know what they do when they test these cars for there official econemy ratings?.

spruiks
Thanks JoeT, you've just increased my vocabulary. Must be purely Australian. Never heard the word while living in New Zealand.

It's unfortunate if it's a regulation thing that is dragging the AFM implementation down. A technical issue I could understand, but if it's on the G8... get'er done boys!
