Holden Captiva Beats Its SUV Opposition In The Latest Vehicle Operating Costs Results

Hyundai’s Getz Named Australia’s Most Frugal

Marton Pettendy
4 June 2007
www.goauto.com.au

Hyundai's Getz has been named the victor, and Toyota’s LandCruiser the villain, in the 2007 Vehicle Operating Costs Survey released by the RACV last week.

While there were few surprises in the ranking of running costs for a cross-section of popular new vehicles, the RACV found hidden costs like servicing, insurance and interest rates had conspired with fuel price hikes to increase the average cost of operating a vehicle by seven per cent over the past 12 months.

The survey, which included the cost of financing the vehicle, depreciation, scheduled services, registration, insurance, fuel, tyres and RACV membership over a five-year or 75,000km period (15,000km per year), also found that new car values are depreciating faster than before.

The three-door Getz 1.4 manual was found to be the cheapest car to own and run, both in the light car class and overall. It cost $116.54 per week - $5.34 more than last year’s cheapest vehicle, the Kia Rio 1.6 manual sedan, which this year dropped to fourth ($128.07) behind Holden’s Barina 1.6 three-door manual ($120.85) and Toyota’s Yaris 1.3 three-door manual ($125.88). Fifth was the Suzuki Swift 1.5 five-door manual ($130.00).

The RACV examined 37 top-selling models across 10 vehicle categories. Popular light models not included were Ford’s Fiesta, Honda’s Jazz, Mitsubishi’s Colt, Hyundai’s Accent and the Mazda2.

Captiva is the same as the Vue right?
I hope they dont bring it here as a chevy.... Chevy needs a more radical design for the next Equinox. When the Equinox came to market it got Kudos for "looking like a SUV should look like".... despite all its shortcomings.

PS---Not for nothing, but Equinox would have been a better name for the Torrent, considering Pontiac already has the Solstice... and if anyone knows anything about Astronomy, they are related. .... Spring and Fall Equinox, Summer and Winter Solstice.... just a thought.

Captiva is a platform-mate of the VUE, but not the same. Captiva offers 7 passenger seating with a folding 3rd row. I'm surprised Captiva hasn't been brought to the US market yet. I'm not sure what brand it would slot in with best, but I think it could be a Chevy if it got an update on the front clip. It sells as a Chevy elsewhere in the world.

Hopefully we only have to endure Pontiac selling the Torrent for one more model year. The sooner that thing moves to GMC, the better.

Well, it sounds good. If they could make the exterior look more unique and envoke a little more emotion, it sounds like a great replacement for the Equinox.

If Chevy is getting a Lambda then the Equinox should be dropped. I think I like the headlights of the Captiva aver the VUE.

It would make sense as a Chev. I still think GM has a problem with too many brands - especially in the US where they compete against one another. That is the reason GM has to 'badge engineer' vehicles because it is too costly to build a seperate vehicle for Chev, Pontiac, Buick, Saturn and Cadillac. Consider that Toyota sell the RAV4 as a ..... Toyota. This must surely save a truckload of $$$$.

Too cheap for Buick? Buy an Acadia, 90% Buick for 90% of the cost.
I know you're being sarcastic, but with all seriousness it gotta go. Or it gotta be made so damn different from the Enclave, engine options, suspension settings, whatever.
