Holden-Badge Volt Confirmed For 2012 Release

Volt Will Be A Holden, But Not With Green Dollars

Mike Sinclair
8 December 2008
www.carpoint.com.au

GM's electric car will get a Holden badge but not at the expense of Aussie taxpayers.

Holden's Managing Director, Mark Reuss has pledged GM's electric car the Volt will wear a Holden badge when it arrives Down Under, but not at the expense of local taxpayers.

Announced as a "definite" for Australia by 2012, at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney in October (more here 2992183), it was anticipated by most that the Volt would wear Chevrolet badges. However, the lion brand's Chairman and CEO confirmed last night the Volt would be marketed not as a Chevrolet, but the local hero brand.

"If you remember in Sydney, we already had announced plans to introduce the Volt to Australia by 2012," Reuss began.

"There was a lot of speculation at that auto show what brand that car would be, and I'm here to tell you tonight it [Volt] is going to have the lion on the front of it and it's going to be a Holden Volt, that's very exciting for us," the obviously delighted exec stated.

Reuss' comments came at an end-of-year gathering of senior Holden execs and the local motoring media.

Well, I don't necessarily agree where the Volt is concerned.

If it has potential to sell well, I say change the front/rear styling and rebadge it all they want for different markets.

Should America have 5 versions of the Volt? No. But adapting it (even if it is just the brand/badge) for foreign markets only makes sense.

Now we can burn even MORE coal! That's okay: we have plenty.

I think the rest of the article was more interesting. I was glad to hear his outline for intended access to teh Federal Government's Green Car Fund. Nice stab at 'yoda too .

Thumbs up Mr. Reuss.

Let's just hope GM is still around by 2012. That's the bigger issue.

Volt must be a worldwide car. GM should market this car everywhere.

I thought that this was good too!

I wonder though how much longer till we see some changes? The diesel idea has been floating around for a while. Direct injection same. E85 is out there now in the media at least. The adjustment to V6 to 175 is a start. I know these things take time. Hopefully when the VF is release

On a side note with the theory on the 2.9 diesel in the commodore,I'm sure this would be a great performance/economy package. How bout a economy package, how would the diesel out of the Captiva work in the commodore. Would the commodore be too heavy for that engine?

Re: Holden-Badge Volt Confirmed For 2012 Release

I think that it would be foolish to badge this as anything but a Holden in Australia. As many of us have said a million times, a rebadge is NOT a bad thing in a market where other versions of the vehicle don't exist.
