Holden Astra Range Prices Slashed By $2000
Astra Prices Take A Tumble
David Berthon 3 August 2007 www.smh.com.au Holden is slashing the prices of its small Astra hatch, wagon and coupe just three months after the range was upgraded with an all-new engine. The Astra was relegated to fourth best-selling small car in June by Mitsubishi's value-packed Lancer sedan. It is third in the year-to-date sales race, behind the Toyota Corolla and Mazda3. Under the banner of its Hit the Streets sale, which runs until September 30, Holden has cut Astra prices by $2000 across the range. The entry model, the 1.8-litre manual Astra CD five-door hatchback, drops to $19,990 plus on-road costs; the CD wagon drops to $21,790; and the three-door CD coupe drops to $21,990. The better-equipped manual Astra CDX hatch drops to $22,990 plus on-road costs; the CDX wagon to $24,490; and the CDX Coupe to $24,990. The 1.9-litre manual CDTi turbo diesel hatch is now $27,990, as is the 2.2-litre manual SRi hatch. The sporty 2.0-litre SRi turbo three-door coupe, which comes only as a manual, is reduced to $32,990. An automatic transmission (four-speed on petrol versions and six-speed on the diesel) adds $2000 across the range, while metallic paint adds $350. Some dealers are selling the high-end models with even greater discounts: Suttons Holden at Rosebery has the 1.9-litre automatic turbo diesel hatch for $29,990 drive-away, a saving of $4800. Heartland Holden at Parramatta has the performance-oriented 2.2-litre turbo SRi Coupe for $33,990 drive-away, a saving of $4300. Re: Holden Astra Range Prices Slashed By $2000
Interesting. Hopefully when the Saturn Astra comes here, it will start around 15-16k. I don't want to see a starting price of around 19-20k, where the Aura will start in the low 20s. GM better price it right, or it will price it right outside of the market. But, I wouldn't mind the prices going to the high teens or low 20s.

Re: Holden Astra Range Prices Slashed By $2000
I'd love to have a CDTi manual (US$22,270 before GST the way I want it) or a Twin Top automatic (US$35,489 before GST the way I want it). The Twin Top is kinda pricey though.
Then again, there are many things I'd love to have yet cannot.

Re: Holden Astra Range Prices Slashed By $2000
I've basically made a deal with the wife. If I can get a loaded 5-door for sub-$20k we're going to get an Astra. If not, we're going to buy a used CTS-V.

According to wikipedia depending on the country "Also called Buick Excelle, Buick Excelle HRV, Chevrolet Lacetti, Chevrolet Nubira, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet SRV, Holden Viva, Suzuki Forenza, Suzuki Reno" see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daewoo_Lacetti. They also comment that "the Viva is meant to be below the premium Holden Astra as a budget alternative" which seems fair enough except Astra outsells the Viva, despite its higher price tag indicating maybe even more Astras would sell without the internal competition. (Astra models, of course, are also sold under different brand names in differnet countries: Opel, Vauxhall and soon Saturn and even Chevrolet in South America & Mexico plus in Russia as a "Chevrolet Viva", again according to wikipedia, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Astra). |

The Viva is also Top Gear's vehicle of choice for 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car' in Chevrolet Lacetti sedan guise.

That's a noticeable drop. From time to time we hear of slight drops (a couple hundred bucks), but two grand is enough to grab your attention. Looks like the Astra could be headed up the sales charts... watch out Lancer, Mazda3 and Corolla!

I can't wait for this to come out! They really need to bring the twin top and redline over here ASAP!....and the Panoramic windsheild wouldn't hurt, too.

Re: Holden Astra Range Prices Slashed By $2000
There is just something weird about Austrailian taste...I would not make much of this. The Astra has done well world wide and it is getting constant updates so I would not worry.

Re: Holden Astra Range Prices Slashed By $2000
I was being facetious. Basically Astra prices are so low that they're damn near Viva level, for something that's a ****load better.
