HDT To Revive Hot Holden Modifications To Honour Racing Legend Peter Brock
Brock Commodore Is Back
Joshua Dowling 5 April 2008 www.smh.com.au The spirit of the fallen motor racing hero lives on with a new HDT model. It may not wear the Bathurst champion's signature on its flanks but this is the closest creation yet to a modern version of a Brock Commodore. Based on the latest Commodore but designed to look like Brock's first Commodore, right down to the red, white and black stripes, it has been specially built by HDT, which is now in the hands of a new owner and long time friend of Peter Brock. Peter Champion owns the largest collection of Brock road cars and race cars in Australia. The former coal truck driver and mining contractor has put a lot of his wealth and passion into keeping the memory of Brock alive since the motor racing champion's death in a road rally in September 2006. Unlike the original Brock Commodores, which are fetching record prices on the muscle-car market, the latest model doesn't come with Holden's blessing and you can't buy one at a Holden dealer. Customers must buy the car first and take it to HDT for the enhancements. The latest HDT Commodore starts life as a $45,000 SS sedan and customers have the choice of three levels of upgrades, costing $15,000, $25,000 or $40,000 and known as Group One, Group Two and Group Three, a nod to the original Brock road cars. HDT believes there is a ready market for the vehicles given the rising interest in the muscle-car scene in Australia. Click here to continue article Brock's Hero Cars To Roar Again Joshua Dowling 28 September 2007 www.drive.com.au The racing champion's road cars will be revived in spirit with the help of the new owner of HDT. The man who owns the largest collection of Brock Commodores in Australia plans to revive the famous HDT nameplates in honour of the racing legend. Queensland mining contractor Peter Champion, 53, who owns more than 40 Brock Commodores, including some rare race cars and immaculate replicas, bought the HDT business last month and plans to introduce a range of new HDT models based on the latest Commodore SS. "This is about keeping the spirit of Peter Brock alive," says Champion, who also plans to open a Brock museum near Rockhampton later this year. "We want to build cars that Peter Brock would have built today." Champion says he and Brock spoke about these plans in the months before Brock died in a car crash in September last year. "Brock was very keen to get back into the road car business and we spoke about these plans on many occasions." Champion knew Brock for more than a decade and over that time the pair formed a strong friendship, which saw Champion restore some of Brock's most famous race cars - and build a replica of Brock's first race car, an Austin A30. The new HDT models are not yet for sale but Champion and his team at HDT, which is based in Revesby in Sydney's south-west, are putting the finishing touches on the first car. "We want to stay true to the original Brock cars as much as possible," Champion says. Initially, HDT plans to add body enhancements and wheels and leave the cars standard mechanically so they are covered by Holden warranty. "The plan is for people to buy the cars from a Holden dealer and then bring them to HDT for modifications," he says. "We're not selling cars, we're selling aftermarket enhancements built to the HDT formula." Re: HDT To Revive Hot Holden Modifications To Honour The Late Peter Brock
Good to see an enthusiast taking on a past historic nameplate rather than a marketing bureau. I look forward to the results.

I wish him well.
Maybe I should get some splitters and a cold air intake for the Vacationer...

Nice! I dare say your Brock Commodore decals wouldn't be too far off what they are planning. I think they're on a winner here.

Re: HDT To Revive Hot Holden Modifications To Honour Racing Legend Peter Brock
I hope he does better than the last guys who owned the name - their efforts let the name down IMHO.
I agree with Slick, the wing is from another era, but otherwise pretty cool ! I grew up in a country town, and the owner of one of the servos had a new VK group 3 with 5 spoke charcoal Simmons wheels. I barred up over that car almost as much as I did over Jacquie Armstrong (the local hottie)...

Re: HDT To Revive Hot Holden Modifications To Honour Racing Legend Peter Brock
That's not a bad interpretation, but from what I've been told by a friend that works for HDT it's going to have add-on fender flares like the VC's did and the wheels are going to be a modern day version of the original VC wheels.

Re: HDT To Revive Hot Holden Modifications To Honour Racing Legend Peter Brock
Really? Not a big fan of the VC Brock wheels. They'll have to really turn it on to make them work.
