However, I didn't understand why all the car mags complained about the trunk opening on the Camaro until I saw one open. It's bigger than the GTO trunk, but I don't know how you can put anything in it.
You see, sometimes the General just can't win!

If it had been the other way around (which it has been so many times) you'd be complaining that GM sacrificed style for function.

The Camaro is an awesome car. We got just what we asked for. The General finally delivered it as promised.

If you want a functional car with no style go by a FORD Flex...its a rectangle with a large rear opening just for you!

I love how the camaro looks but the trunk is a valid point - The GTO had trunks problems when it came over too - just different issues. For as BIG and as HEAVY the Camaro is... space should have been of some consideration.

I guess the thing that bothers me a bit about it is that they made the car I wanted except with 4 doors instead of 2. The G8 is all the things that the Camaro is not in terms of space and functionality, although a bit heavier, and of course lacking the traffic stopping looks. I was a bit surprised after seeing a few Camaros when they came out that I felt this way, because I'm a total muscle car type of guy. I began to think the G8 was the better car on the platform, and I still feel that way.

That's not to say I wouldn't get a Camaro, but I wouldn't trade in my GTO for one. To me there's just not enough upside, not to mention I'm just now getting my car to how I want it.

I'm not sure they have to sacrifice style for function, either. I really like the look of the G8, or take the Corvette even. It's probably about the best true sports car there is for everyday use.

Hey, the Flex has some styling to it, so did the Aztek. Whether or not it's attractive is another issue.

I guess I don't totally understand how my Dad's '68 Camaro can be so much smaller, and yet in a lot of ways more usable--the trunk and visibility for example. The weight and some of the size I suppose I'll chalk up to safety and features that didn't exist in the late 60's. Maybe it's that the 2010 car doesn't use its space as efficiently as the 1st gen, and nobody can tell me that the 1st gen lacks style.

The GTO trunk is purely a Aus to US issue that was solved in the VE upgrade. Had the car not been rushed to the US market, there may have been another way.

Hmmm. I think few people - at least Yanks anyway - would agree with you.

Coupe60/next-gen GTO would have been my next new vehicle unless the ST would have actually came out. I want a true 2+2 coupe with a usable back seat and a trunk at a reasonable price with a V8 and RWD. Camaro's back seat is a joke so will never cut it for me. My car field of dreams is littered with things that never made it here.
