Re: Global Green Challenge Set To Review Rules After HSV's 6.2L V8 Win

perhaps they can have two winners next year? 1 being the car that saved the most fuel, the other being the car that used the least fuel?

When I read the reaction all I could see was the ecofreaks getting all contorted because they only focus on overall "mpg" or whatever as opposed to the actual fuel savings. Although we've all gone over this territory before, it's just incomprehensible to these fools that if someone needs a large vehicle that getting that vehicle to be more efficient is worth more in their quest to "save the planet" than getting someone out of their small 4-banger and into a Prius.
Absolutely!

Does anyone have the Global Green Challenge results compare to ADR highway ratings?

If the competing vehicles measured higher than ADR highway ratings ... that would even be BETTER! This might be impossible because of the city sequences included in the competition.

LS2s and LS3s don't have it anyway - the AFM stuff is blanked off castings. It's not compatible with the cam they run and revs they pull.

Shush... no bringing logic into the arguement

Just change the math and factor in the petrol used. HSV gains lots on the % reduction but loses lots when they factor in the petrol used. The econoboxes gain little on the % reduction but gain big on the petrol used (or lack there of).

HSV & Holden did the math, played by the rules and won. Maybe they should be complaining to the ADR for such a bad fuel economy number to begin with?

Last run in my VXII wagon with 5.7L on a trip from Christchurch to Dunedin (approx 375 km) at 100 - 110 km/h and having to slow down to between 50 - 80 km/h through all the towns on the way I averaged 10.4L/100km. This includes quite hilly terrain for approximatley 100 km of the journey.

Maybe with extractors and a dyno tune I could get it closer to 9.5L? Be interested to know of any other S/W drivers who have taken those steps and what consumption figures they get.
