Byron Mathioudakis
30 January 2008
www.goauto.com.au

Commodore and Hummer to receive bullocking new V6 turbo-diesel within 18 months.

GM Holden is expected to release a turbo-diesel V6 option in the Commodore and Statesman/Caprice inside the next 18 months.

Co-developed by VM Motori in Italy, this is the global V6 diesel that will be fitted in a bevy of GM products in the next few years, from Opel through to GM truck-based vehicles including GMC and Hummer.

A diesel for the Sierra 1500? I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I'll toss up the full size shots, mods feel free to grab them and post them for your use. I'll keep them up on imageshack for a few days, edit this post if you move them locally.

Re: Confirmed: Holden Commodore Turbo-Diesel To Be Released Within 18 Months

The engine has 184kW and 550Nm standard guise. Applied to the VE with its own exhaust system and ECU tuning, I wouldn't be surprised if it produces a different output to that. Although, 184kW outpowers the base V6 (180kw) and equals the 6.0L LS2 V8 (HSV-guise produces 550Nm) for torque which is a great feat in itself. This 2.9L sounds amazing.

Wonderful! But, why 18 months? It is needed ASAP, and GM needs to make ASAP mean well under 18 months.

Nope, timing is about right for me. A diesel may help me get a VE (VF?) over the line financially. A diesel Berlina Sportswagon ! Fantastic !

Is the diesel US Legal? I think this would be cool here but they would need to get it here quickly. I still want an LS3 in mine though.

Re: Confirmed: Holden Commodore Turbo-Diesel To Be Released Within 18 Months

The diesel is Euro IV compliant. VM Motori is about the most advanced diesel company in the world. This is the same unit destined for the CTS in Europe, if not the USA.

If they can hold the option price down, this will be a real killer for the Commodore vs the domestic competition - watch Toyota scramble to get one in the Camaurion.

Re: Confirmed: Holden Commodore Turbo-Diesel To Be Released Within 18 Months

I hope they offer it across the range. Traditionally diesels are only offered in one or 2 variants. An Omega, Berlina and Calais should be offered and it should be available in sedan, wagon and ute.

great news.
It MUST ... repeat ....... MUST come out in the Ute.

I assume it will, because it says 'across the range'.

ASAP? Sooner rather than later is always better, but ASAP is not totally necessary. Gas is not $5 a gallon, the world is not burning down. I think diesel passenger cars in the US are not what consumers are thinking. We're obsessed with hybrids, despite some clear positives from diesels. While I would LOVE to see a G8 or RWD Impala with this engine, I think the US market can go 18 more months without this option. Diesel in most places still costs as much as premium gas. A little bit more time and market pressure will surely make this engine a gem for GM.

Give me a Zeta diesel. 405 lb/ft of torque? Oh yes!

I can't wait to see fuel economy figures.
