Australian & New Zealand June 2009 Sales Results: HiLux Just Outsells Commodore
Australian June 2009 Sales Results
Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries 3 July 2009 www.fcai.com.au The latest new vehicle sales data shows encouraging results with clear signs the market has been boosted by strong, additional demand from business sales. Official VFACTS data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) shows that 102,847 passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles were sold in June 2009. This is the third highest selling month on-record, following 106,541 in June 2008 and 105,097 in June 2007. “The June results are encouraging and a positive sign for the new vehicle market and the Australian economy,” FCAI Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said. “This is the third highest selling month on-record and only the fourth time ever that sales have exceeded 100,000 units in a single month,” he said. Business purchases in June were 46,679 – a 12 per cent increase on a year ago. In particular, sales of utes, vans and light trucks have surged by 26.9 per cent compared to June 2008. “The surge in business sales is directly attributed to the Federal Government’s business tax break and these figures provide clear evidence that this has been a very effective policy measure,” Mr McKellar said. “Our analysis indicates that the business tax break has led to an additional 10,000 vehicles being sold over the past three months. That is a 10 to 12 per cent boost to business sales and a five per cent increase for the total market,” he said. “This is additional turnover of between three-and-four-hundred million dollars that is providing a direct boost to the car industry as well as other local businesses throughout the Australian economy,” Mr McKellar said. “The tax break is classic stimulus; it is giving businesses the confidence to invest in their own future and securing jobs in the industry,” Mr McKellar said. Year-to-date 455,223 new vehicles have been sold, down 16.1 per cent (87,472) compared to the same period last year. Toyota continued in the top sales position in June with 21,410 vehicle sales, ahead of Holden with 12,167 and Ford with 10,194. Top Australian Brands June 2009 Brand - Sales 1. Toyota - 21410 2. There has been another lift in the sale of new vehicles in New Zealand with June’s new car sales figures showing an eight per cent increase over May’s registrations. “This is another encouraging sign that the New Zealand new car market is through the worst,” says Perry Kerr, CEO of the Motor Industry Association. “Both new car and light commercial sales increased over May’s totals, which themselves were an improvement from the very low sales volumes in April, one of the industry’s worst ever months.” In June, a total of 4,306 new cars were registered, compared to 3,979 in May this year, an 8.2 per cent increase. Registrations totaling 1,812 units in the new commercial vehicle sector produced a 37.8 per cent increase in volume over the previous month. The total new vehicle market for 2009 looks to be approximately two-thirds the level of 2008 with forecast new car and commercial sales of between 50,000 to 60,000 units expected for the full year. Kerr says overseas trends indicate that other major markets are now through the worst of the low sales volumes. “It seems we’re following these trends in New Zealand, which is very encouraging. With June’s total, we’re on track for these predicted 2009 figures.” In terms of market share, Toyota continues as the market leader in both new cars and commercial vehicle sectors. Toyota’s overall market share of 19.3 per cent puts it in front of Ford with 12.4 per cent and Holden with 8.9 per cent year to date. The Toyota Corolla is the country’s best-selling model, ahead of the Holden Commodore and the Suzuki Swift. Top New Zealand Brands June 2009 Brand - Sales 1. Toyota - 1416 2. Ford - 718 3. wow for Holden here in NZ its really troubling times 6th really isn't great! And to add insult to injury the remaining 2 sole GM dealerships (Schofield & Moyes) now share the floorspace with Nissan and Suzukis. Nice to see the commy isn't doing so badly in Aussie.
However Hyundai should be commended on there efforts up the sales ladder. |

Best V8 Sales in 5 years
Joshua Dowling Carpoint Crisis? What oil crisis? Holden V8 is roaring along On the eve of the launch of Australia's most fuel-efficient car, the new Toyota Prius, Holden has revealed that our love affair with V8s is far from over. Holden has released detailed figures for Commodore and Statesman that show sales of V8s last month were at their highest since the recent oil crisis. In June, one in four Commodores and Statesmans sold was a V8. Last year, the average was one in five. That is, of the 6570 Commodore sedans, wagons, utes and Statesman and Caprice models sold in June, 1682 were V8s. Incredibly, Holden says it could have sold more V8s but it ran out of stock. "Lower petrol prices were definitely a factor, but we also believe our new [Active Fuel Management] helped sales as well," said Holden's executive director of sales and marketing, Alan Batey. He said this was evidenced by the swing to V8s with automatic transmissions (AFM is only available on auto transmission), which accounted for the majority of sales. Yes a mining company would make a difference so would Telstra or the energy companies. The tax relief may have contributed with tradies buying them.

Proving the Australians are just as crazy as the Americans, the both of us continue to give our countries industries away, then wonder where the hell all the good paying jobs went.

Re: Australian & New Zealand May 2009 Sales Results: HiLux Just Outsells Commodore
6500 total combined sales of Commodore and derivatives, thats pretty good for current market conditions, if Holden can keep up that kind of sales or even increase they should be well on the way to a good profit next year considering how except for a one of charge they would have made a profit last year.
Do any of the makers release a break down of the individual model sales?? would be interesting to see the mix between the makers of lower end entry level models to luxury variants in their lineup. |

GM needs a good reputable truck. A commercial that compares their truck against the Hilux?

I agree to some extent, but they really need both. The Colorado is outsold by Hilux, Navara and Triton so it needs a lift. There is a planned SUV coming from the Delta II (Cruze) platform. Although it's been far too long a wait - and its still quite a way off. With a new Barina, hatchback Cruze, new Epica and VF Commodore - Holden might have the best range of cars since the 90's. |

I was just pointing out that with Hilux doing around 3000 - 4000 sales a month, Colorado is being outsold by 2 or 3 to 1. It would be great to have a really strong competitor to steal some of that volume Holden's way. I don't think anyone is going to cut Toyota's market dominance without tackling their commercial sales stranglehold. |
