Re: Australian & New Zealand April 2008 Sales Results: Toyota HiLux Top Sales Results
I think it looks better than the Tundra - sharp looking little truck there...

I wish we could get the HiLux here. Pound for pound it's the toughest truck out there, better than the Tacoma.

I've been seeing a lot of them out on the roads and it's reflected in the sales figures... those Hyundai i30s are quite popular! They probably really out-sell the Elantra. Now imagine if Kia brought over the C'eed. That'd blow the Cerato out of the water quicker than you could say "lame duck"

Funny, the Commodore is so much more preferable to the HiLux, though apparently I'm in the minority on that call. It's a nice little truck, I suppose, but number one is sales?!
So, tell us people from Oz, was there a special rebate to promote this victory? Is this a one-month thing? |

F150 normally tops American charts, so its not really surprising to see a similar country as Australia also have these sorts of vehicles up the top too.

Re: Australian & New Zealand April 2008 Sales Results: Toyota HiLux Tops Sales Charts
They said in today's news Melbourne, the second biggest city in Australia where I live, is now the second most affordable city for housing - and property values here went up about 18% on average here last year. The Australian dollar has been nudging 94c US and due to continuiing strength of our property market, relatively high interest rates and recovering farm sector we have very favourable trading, which is making imported goods cheap.
Everyone's got bargains on their imported lines. Even makers like Volks, Mercerdes, BMW are not exactly discounting but selling lots of extra content at no extra cost - the cheapest Aurion that did start at $32-33K eighteen months ago is now available at about that drive-away, representing about $4-5000 off retail counting stamp duty and sales tax. The resouces boom in Northern and Western Australia is fuelling sales of HiLuxes. Holden sold 1500 Rodeos, 300% of sales two-three years ago. Even though they're very utilitarian to the point of being uncomfortable you get a lot quite cheap for your money. The HiLux is available with a big petrol motor (same as the Aurion/Lexus RS) or a diesel which probably more than 50% are sold with. With the Daewoos, Holden has to get in line with Chevrolet and Daewoo themselves. Note the Barina is still selling all they can get @ 1,000 month, so does the Captiva. Ford seems to have the same issue with the Mondeo, because they don't hang around on lots and Ford don't advertise them much so supply must be tight. The other factor is, the Camry and Corolla are the new fleet queens. Ten years ago Councils and government departments bought Aussie sixes. Now due to petrol prices and concern about greenhouse gasses they buy fours, with the Camry being favoured as it is Australian manufacture. You can't move for new Corollas. That will bite Toyota eventually, because resale has been one of their virtues, there are only so many buyers for new or used for Toyota. It will kill resales on privatley-owned ones as all these ex-lease vehicles hit the auctions. Holden moved the VE Commodore out of this market to a large degree deliberately by halving fleet discounts, because it depresses resale. Sales of V8s are still doing well. I don't think Holden would be too worried. Still selling all the product they make, either here or overseas. Still selling almost everything they bring in. Without valid new product - and there's nothing on offer - not much they do. I think we'll just have to get used to them not being the biggest.

Re: Australian & New Zealand April 2008 Sales Results: Toyota HiLux Tops Sales Charts
I'm not surprised a "truck" is now the No.1 selling vehicle in Australia
We have been heading towards this for sometime as light truck sales are booming in Australia, it beats me why Holden + Ford did not catch on and sell the Silverado and F-150 as well........ ![]() Once again, Holden + Ford are the laughing stock as Toyota just walk all over them in every segment. . OK for starters the Colorado you speak of which u get from Isuzu right?? has been on sale here for over 20 years if you look at the list its just outside the top 10 and is 3rd best selling LCV. We do have the small Euro cars on sale here, we have Astra, Focus here to even had the Euro Barina/Corsa to, but prob with Euro cars is there expensive and they didnt sell well for Holden or Ford so they went for the Korean cars. So if Holden dont care about there small cars obviously neither does Chev in europe either cause they sell the Daewoo rebages over there to and im pretty sure is the main reason for the huge increase in sales over that way and Holden will always get there small cars from Daewoo cause they own 40% of Daewoo so why get your cars from somewhere else?? I do agree with you though about the American market, i think everyone would like a larger car then they need just for the extra space and power you get with a bigger motor, its nice when fuel is considered cheap |
