We have LPG and LNG we can use without diverting precious water in to growing fuel.
The Bioethanol they're talking about is the cellulosic version where it is composited from waste by enzyme action - not grown as maize or corn or from sugar. That's the Coskata model Holden is joint-venturing and the basis of their E85 car production. I agree - growing food for ethanol when part of the world is starving is ethically questionable. Using green detritus, though, I can come at.

Agreed. If Australia can obtain alcohol-based fuels from Microbe action on 'waste', it is far more acceptable to me than obtaining it from crops that can be used for feeding the masses.

Agreed. I've been opposed to fuel from food from the beginning. The amount of organic wastes our societies produce would provide constant feedstock for cellulosic ethanol and biobutanol.

^^^That is exactly what I've been looking into lately. Still trying to work out how easy/hard it is to switch between feedstocks. Feeding a gasifier may be difficult from waste to get consistent out put (but I don't know).
