I love it! It's like I've never even heard it before...

I actually know what you mean. Sounded fresh, didn't it?

Maybe we can go with...

"Pontiac ... Ah, NOW We Get It"

Beautiful videography on that piece.
Was that done by GM or myride?

Re: Vid First Drive: 2008 Pontiac G8

I may be in the minority when I say this, but I do like the more understated looks of the G8, particularly in GT trim. I think this review-particularly with respect to the advertising slogan-is pretty fair.

I, too, appreciate the work you do for this site, 91 s-10baja. FWIW, I naturally gravitate to your posts; you generally post interesting selections.

I'm still rather displeased with the "Pontiac is Car" slogan.

Like the narrator of the video, I dislike the silly red dash lighting that Pontiac insists is tied to its image. Please don't try to convince me it's easier to see at night ... for me, it's the opposite.

Let's hope the G8 helps Pontiac dealers move some metal.
The red lighting may be hard for you to see, but it is great for me and one of the few reasons I choose Pontiac over other GM divisions. I have owned several Pontiacs and I just love the red lighting. I have owned a Saturn SC2 and I took the dash apart and fixed the lights so that they would glow red at night. I'm very happy that Pontiac has kept the red lights, just a little something that is different from the other divisions.

i was VERY in impressed with how aggressive this car looks in video! i was already sold on it's looks from the static mag and internet pics, but now i'm sure i'll be obsessively in love when i see my first one on the street or at the dealer! and to think, i was seriously considering a brand new avalanche LT!

Re: Vid First Drive: 2008 Pontiac G8

I will have to swap out the taillights with a V6 owner if I get one - the clear Altezza style are too ricey.

Go with the Avalanche. If you were looking at comfort, ride quality, hauling capacity, etc the Avalanche will deliver so much more. The G8 isn't nearly as nice.

Thanks for these words, it is nice to see people interested in the same goofy periodicals as I, and more importantly the retrospecting that I find fascinating!!

I think some of the coolest bits, when I look through my old car magazines, are the concept cars of yore. Old production models are rare, but chances are if you just do an eBay Motors search, you can get a look at several examples. Concept cars from the last 10 years are lodged somewhere in the bowels of Supercars.net, SeriousWheels, UltimateCarPage, or similar. Yet concepts as recent as the 1980s are effectively lost forever.

There are many completely undocumented that lie idle in high security automaker's garages and still others forgotten in the corners of tourist museums--that is, if they weren't crushed by now. Their brief appearances were easily wiped from memory by the passage of time, and sadly the internet was not around to document them. The only place any record can be found (if you even know what you are looking for, and due to their nature, many times you just have to look and hope to see something interesting but unknown) is in old car rags and newspapers. I think it's a damn shame that something more serious doesn't exist to record the history of concept cars and make a solid journalistic effort to document it.

What a great idea, that would be an amazing periodical. David E Davis, you listening?
