Re: Solstice GXP test

Shame on you Solstice, 160ft for braking is ok for a truck, not for a sports car.

Re: Solstice GXP test

It should do better than 5.7.. I'm thinking more like 5.3 given the weight. We shall see when a really good driver gets ahold of one.

Those are some really good figures minus the braking.

Re: Solstice GXP test

Hrm...it is from 70 to 0, that might be a bit better then the standard 60-0 testing. Im gunna go scan the MT's to find out how it stacks up.

Re: Solstice GXP test

Maybe some people need to re-read this. Its 70-0 not 60-0.

160ft is pretty good. Its on par with older Z06s and one mag has the 2006 Z06 braking at 162ft (though most are ~150)

Edit: BigAls87Z28 you beat me to it, just barely though.

Re: Solstice GXP test

Probably wait until C&D gets a hold of it. It seems that they don't really care for American cars, but they can drive. It's amazing to see the differences in track times they come up with compared to some others. Edmunds seems to be fairly unbiased, but they can't drive worth a ****************, even with an auto. Compare the difference between the 0-60 difference on a new Escalade: CD-6.3 seconds, Edmunds-7.5 seconds.

Re: Solstice GXP test

Well C&D is more of an enthusiast magazine. Their tests are almost always on the low side. Edmunds is meant more for the average buyer who's less into performance and they may not go all the way to try and wring out every last bit of performance.

Re: Solstice GXP test

Energy = 1/2 Mass * Velocity Squared.
70 * 70 = 490
60 * 60 = 360
At 70 mph, the car has roughly 136% of the kinetic (moving) energy it has at 60 mph.
Dividing by the same percentage for braking at 60 mph gives a 117 ft. estimated stopping distance at that speed (60 mph).

Conclusion: The Solstice GXP has really great brakes.
Thank you GM!

I was going to say... whenever I test drive one it brakes really well. That number did seem odd.

Not sure if this has been posted but i dont remember seeing it, i just got the magazine today.
I'm slightly diappointed in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. I was expecting around 5.4-5.5 but even more surprising, I was expecting high 13's for the 1/4 as the SS-S/C Cobalt and Ion RL with the 2.0L Ecotec S/C 200hp 205ft/lbs of torque has a 0-60 of 6.1 and a 1/4 time in the low 14's stock like 14.2-14.5 with a decent driver (check cobaltss.com for posted times if you insist on "proof" or a reference). The DI Ecotec 2.0 Turbo 260hp 260ft/lbs of torque has a huge power advantage but really it doesn't show in the 1/4 times. I was surprised by that as the turbo kicks in early with a flat torque line too. Its just one test though, I'm sure others will have the car markedly faster. Cobalt/Ion tip the scale at 2900 and some change so the weight difference is not significant. Its there, but its under 80lb difference.

But great to hear that they like the engine and the handling ability of the car, maybe it'll be enough to unseat the MX-5, S2000, and Z4?, driving wise at least.

You are correct sir, **************** I have a lot to learn, how I dare to call myself a student of mechanical engineering and forgetting those basic dynamics laws .

Re: Solstice GXP test

I do agree that if you have a magazine that has real drivers on staff those acceleration figures would be lower. Automobile magazine was the only one that I saw that had the latest Z06 running 0-60 in over 4 seconds and 1/4 mile in over 12 seconds
