Road Test: 2005 Chevrolet SSR

The Chevy SSR pickup is certainly not for wanting of attention. It is, however, wanting for more buyers.

Re: Road Test: 2005 Chevrolet SSR

The local Chevy dealer has a yellow SSR that has been there for a year now. I've been thinking about taking a cake and balloons down to the dealer.LOL

It sits next to the first CSV they got and some new SSR's they also got.

Haha, my dealer has had like 4 SSRs there for a year too. There used to be 5, I guess it's in the showroom or someone bought it.

I'm thinking about applying at that dealer since their hiring. Maybe if I get the job and I sell that SSR they'll move me up the ranks quickly.LOL

Re: Road Test: 2005 Chevrolet SSR

Does anyone know anybody that has brought a SSR?
I have never seen 1 here in Daytona Beach area.
Is this an example of wasted resources?

They arent moving quickly here in northeast wisconsin either. The dealer I always do buisness with has had 3 of them for some time. They did sell one last week though for $47,000. Too much money to me for something that is only a toy. I couldnt see driving one of those in the winters we sometimes get here.

the SSR reminds times when cars weren't designed by accountants but by artists.

Re: Road Test: 2005 Chevrolet SSR

Words can not describe how much I hate the SSR. It’s a worthless truck and a crappy sports car all roll into one retarded looking package.

They should have build the Bel Air concept it doesn’t look retarded, it can fit more then 2 people and if they build it on the Colorado chassis they could kept the price under $30,000.

Bel Air stuff
More Bel Air stuff

Re: Road Test: 2005 Chevrolet SSR

The Holden Ute would have made a great El Camino. Weighs 1200 lbs less then the SSR, has a reasonable price and has a bed you can actually use. But I think because of the UAW there is some kind of limit on how many cars GM can import from Australia and GM has already reached that limit with the GTO.

You know what forget the Bal Air. If GM had enough money to turn the Trailblazer into the SSR and put a LS2 in to it, they dam sure had enough money to give the Camaro and Firebird a new interior, exterior and a LS2. Using the same chassis could have kept the price just as low as the new Mustang and people would have bought it.

The SSR is proof that Rick Wagoner know nothing about cars:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It isn't often that major auto companies will pull out all the stops to get a pet project done, especially when it's so highly specialized only 14,000 to 15,000 a year will be crafted. But an early concept at Detroit's international auto show in January 2001 caught the eye of Rick Wagoner, now GM chairman and CEO. Wagoner kicked the project into gear by announcing it at an industry conference that summer, a testament to the fact that car guys once again are in control at GM. (Talk about putting your competitors on notice.)

"He wanted to get it done to create the kind of excitement this kind of vehicle can generate," said Eckhoff.

Wagoner's stamp of approval moved the project into the fast lane, bringing it to reality in something like two years. Everyone working on it felt Wagoner's influence, said Eckhoff. "...because they knew in the company he wanted it done faster than normal."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He needs to be fired NOW.

I remember when they decided to produce it. A huge factor in the decision was the overwhelmingly positive consumer response to it. GM basically listened to the feedback and by the time it arrived nobody wanted it.

Personally I think the LS2 SSR is an extremely cool ride, and I'm glad they built it like Chrysler did the Prowler and Ford did the Thunderbird. I guess it's forever destined to be completely unappreciated.

Holden Utes rock too, it's a real shame Chevrolet doesn't sell it here. Drives better than the GTO, it's more versatile, a bit cheaper, and a bit less heavy.
