R&T Pontiac G8 GT Road Test. And it's not red!

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=6692
"Factor in price and it is, essentially, in a class by itself."

"This is a helluva lot of car for the money," said Editor-at-Large John Lamm as he tossed the keys to GM's latest Australia-via-Detroit offering on my desk, our resident road warrior perhaps a bit weary from the 400-plus miles he logged while on the one-day photo shoot less than 24 hours before. "

"And fast it is: At the test track, we posted a rapid 0–60-mph time of 5 seconds flat and blew past the quarter-mile mark in only 13.5 sec., numbers on a par with the V-10-powered, and more than twice as expensive, Audi S6."

"In a surprising tech twist, the Pontiac G8 GT's navigation system has become my favorite OEM model in the automotive kingdom — especially amazing as the car doesn't have a nav system...in the traditional sense, anyway...

Note to GM: Please try to incorporate this OnStar navigation with gauge cluster display in as many vehicles as possible."

OMG..... That color......
.............
..... I think I just threw up in my mouth..........

Guess what GM.... what works for colors in the Land of Oz does not necessarily work over here. Take the Purple and G8 ST and send it back to Oz.

That colour when you see it on the road stands out and doesnt actually look to bad. Holden has taken the approach of making colours which are more vivid and stand out.

I wish it were not such a bland, dated, derivative, anonymous looking car unlike the Grand Prix designs of the late 60's and early 70's that were such standouts.

You know, not everyone wants to drive some sort of grey/silver car. You can buy it in that color if you want. I'm all for expanding the pallet beyond white, black and grey.

I love my garage with a Yellow Goat and a Go Mango Daytona. Looks like a Crayon box and I like it. You can keep your bland colors.

I am not sure if that color is supposed to be Stealth Blue or not but I will pass on it. Not saying some wont love it, but I think black is a great color on this car. Now if we can do something about those wheels...

That color looks horribly immature on an upscale sport sedan. I'll give similar colors on the Chevy Cobalt and Saturn Vue a pass as they are lower end products, but on the G8 it is just garish.

Agree 100%.

That's why back in the day you could order a MAGENTA S10 or Tracker, but could you ever imagine a Chevy Impala in that Magenta? No way.

Well done Pontiac! I am really happy to see the automotive press giving such great reviews to the car! Go Poncho!

Re: R&T Pontiac G8 GT Road Test. And it's not red!

I personally think that the Australian color schemes are so much cooler than the white, black, red, blue, tan, grey colors that seem to dominate the US. I'd like to see all the Australian colors available, at least as a factory order special, on the G8.

Nobody outside here considers anything Pontiac to be "upscale". Twenty years of Grand Ams, Grand Prixs and Bonnevilles have made it so when you see the split grill you think budget vehicle. This is a lot of car for little money. If you want upscale, you move up to Cadillac.

OMG. I think I had a violent reaction to that color. Immediately reminded me of a 90's Geo Prizm or something. YUCK!

Other than that, cool car. Lots of car for the money. I'd just take it in another color. This car doesn't photograph well either. It looks so much nicer in person too.

So, maybe the color is nicer in person? I can only hope.

based on some initial reactions, I think it is safe to say that many of us don't like the color.

Otherwise, good review!

What a drab world you poor people must live in, monochrome mania! The vivid colors Holden introduced with the VE are striking, and very popular on this side of the pond. You can see them coming from miles away and they add color and sparkle to an otherwise drab highway.
I assume most of you wear cardigans on a regular basis?
