Very interesting, but...
High-performance Grand Prix GXP doesn't quite hang together

Re: Pontiac GP: Very interesting, but...
That review doesn't impress me, it's nice that he says nice things at the beginning but his quarrels are stupid. You would think since its more upgraded than the GTP but the way he's talking it seems the GTP is better. I've seen the interior and it's not that bad, in fact it has better materials than our saab 9-3 and people tend to think the materials are quite good in the 9-3, but in fact the GP is even better. But I never listen to journalists, I'd rather drive the car myself and see what I think. Plus it can't handle or accelerate terribly, god it gets a 0-60 time slightly better than a 300C, pontiac says under 6 seconds for the GP and chrysler says 6.3 seconds for the 300. Like I said with his quarrels, maybe the reason why you have to floor it is because the DOD is designed to be that way so if you tap on the pedal its going to stay in 4 cylinder mode as your not passing someone where if you give it more gas then it will know that you need passing power or more speed. The magnasteer isn't for everyone, it seems noticable with this guy since he doesn't like it but I think it's a great feature. Plus handling too, of course it isn't going to be the number one handling car in the world, it's a BIG CAR and it's FWD, but it handles better than a GTP so I wouldn't be complaining. Consumerguide Drove the GXP and they said it drove great and it was quite smooth but interestingly enough they gave the last gen of GP a recommended but didn't for the the new gen and it's much better.

Why did they repost an older review. This is the same review word for word by the same author here:

Re: Pontiac GP: Very interesting, but...
Can West News service is a wire service (kind of like Reuters), so the Winnipeg Free Press just picked up the story from the news service. Happens all the time.
The review was pretty much what I was expecting, given that this is a stop-gap car. I think the biggest concern is the part-throttle response -- folks who buy cars like this want them to feel powerful and responsive. I actually doubt the DoD is to blame; the response time is very, very fast. More likely, it's the four-speed automatic's reluctance to provide a part-throttle downshift. As the author mentions, a five or six speed automatic's greater number of gears is an advantage here. |

Re: Pontiac GP: Very interesting, but...
I think that the gripes listed are quite trivial. The previous GP had more comfortable seats for the rear passengers and a tad more room. And CG probably took note of that. But the interior of the current GP exceeds that of the old. And as far as for performance and handling, the GP does a pretty good job at it.
