Re: MSN: 2008 Best Overall Value Awards

Another meaningless "best of" list!
I'm glad the 'Vette Convertible won, and GM trucks but that doesn't tell me the media gets it yet. They are so bias it clouds their judgement when figuring cost of ownership, if they even look at that.

GM could have floating cars that run on air with free maintenance that they pay you to drive and they'd still pick imports!

Fine. But the "award" is for value, not looks. I think we can agree that a Land Rover Range Rover looks better than a Trailblazer and a 4Runner. That does not make it a better value.

Re: MSN: 2008 Best Overall Value Awards

Well I see alot of Toyota/Honda bias on this list. The Prius is a good value but it is butt ugly. You would take the current Pilot over the Acadia and Enclave ? That is flat out Honda loving bias. The GM Lamdas drive better, are more comfortable, roomier and have more get up and go than the Pilot and I think get better gas mileage.

My god I am the first one critical of GM vehicles but the new models not the old platforms like the Lamdas, the CTS, Malibu/Aura, G8, the 08 Vue don't even get mentioned, what a joke !!!!

The Toyota Land Cruiser maybe a good SUV, but a good value? Only to a spendthrift.

There are 3 Hondas on a list of 33 cars. I would hardly call that bias.

This list is measuring the cost of ownership, not other criteria like 0-60 and handling ability. That is why cars like the Escape Hybrid are on the list over other vehicles that are superior in most other aspects - it costs less to own. Fuel efficiency is a great benefit to the cost of ownership, and therefore why many hybrids make the list.

Now, I have called into question Intellichoices methods in the past. I have a few of their magazines I bought for reading on an airplane, and some of their cost of ownership results are very puzzling to me. Such as, like others have pointed out, the Toyota Land Cruiser. It costs $60,000 and guzzles a lot of fuel. I guess high resale values offset that.

Totally bogus. A Prius is not under 21K it's base price is $21760. Why this slow fat dumpy overpriced piece of crap made the list 3 times along with the Avalon tells me that they hired a bunch of clueless kids to randomly pick these cars from a list. Actually kids in my area would be smarter than this and would tell MSN that the Prius is more of a fashion statement and false economy.
Exactly, who buys a car with absolutely NO options?

Yes I see your point, but Range Rover costs significantly more than a Toyota 4Runner, in that price range I'd go for an Escalade any day. Please note that I didn't really put many Toyota cars on "My List." I adore GM products and would love the Trailblazer to out trump the 4Runner, but even when it was new it didn't tickle my fancy.

Now the stupidest thing on the original list is the Toyota Land Crusier. That is the most overpriced bloated thing I have ever seen. A Tahoe that costs 20,000 dollars less looks 99.9 times more gorgeous in styling, both exterior and interior.
