With the difference that close, they could run them again and the Mustang might be faster. The reason the Cobalt kept up was by having much better tires, but remember, stock tires will need to be replaced when they wear out...at that point the owners can put on any tires they want.

Does being 0.3 seconds or even 1.5 seconds faster around a road course mean anything when the average person is driving to the work/mall/movies, etc? Personally, better looks, history, sound, interior design, etc would mean more to me.

I do agree that these cars are for different people. Some people like turbo 4cyl sport compacts, so that's what they want. If that's what they like, they shouldn't settle for a Mustang no matter how much "better" some other bozo thinks it is.
I agree 100%- but the discussion was comparing the performance of the 'Stang and the 'Balt, and the road course is one measure of that.

I too don't care few tenths of a second in acceleration times, road course time etc., especially with a manual...it's not like I'm going to go around frying my clutch trying to race at every light.

I personally find a 160 mph (not that I'd ever go that fast, it's just nice to know it's there), 30 mpg small sedan in a sleeper package to be extremely appealing, and much more practical as a daily driver than the 'Stang. On the other hand, if I was buying a weekend toy, it would be the Musstang all the way. I think compelling arguments can be made for both.

No thanks.

You could have a Mustang GT for that much.
Hell with the Mustang, I could buy me a pretty nice N/A Solstice for 25K, or a VW GTi, or a Mini Cooper S, I'll take a Solstice Coupe in Black, thanks.

CobaltSS
lmao. very funny. I salute you CobaltSS.
And I'm quite sure that everyone will keep their SS's purely stock.

The 'Balt is a great vehicle.
The SS is the bomb.
And just think - we are just one year away, give or take, from the next generation.

Re: Motortrend - First Drive: 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS coupe

I like my cobalt ss supercharged, its refined compared to my 02 Camaro, 2 different cars 2 different purposes, on long trips the cobalt is a must, taking the camaro for a trip longer then 100 miles hurts, not comfortable at all. I love both cars, both are performers in there own way. cobalt imo opinion out handles and out brakes the camaro in every way possible imo, but the camaro just has that brute power that can pin u in ur seat all the way to 160mph

This looks like a winner from the General, but hopefully it means I can get an SS/SC for a better deal now. Blower whine FTW!

I would just take a N/A used Solstice/SKY, get the Hahn Stage IV kit and put down over 370rwhp and be under 25k
