You know, I think Chevy has finally built another real "SS"!

I would still rather have the '89 Corvette, if it's a vert. I will say the specs on the SS are very impressive, and I have been known to buy a hot hatch or two or three.

I bet those Germans are ashamed that an American car has the fastest track time for that segment.

I am frankly stunned by the numbers this car generated. It looks great to me. Those seats are terrific! Wonder what other colors are offered? Good job GM. I only hope this package is offered on the next generation Cobalt. If so, I will seriously consider it.

Re: Motortrend - First Drive: 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS coupe

Whether you like it or not the G5 does exists and it just seems stupid that GM's "Performance" division get shafted when it comes to performance cars. With the Cobalt/G5 duo you would think the Pontiac would have the 260 hp engine and not the Chevy. Just another example where Chevy gets the preferential treatment when it comes to product. I agree, the G5 is not the car Pontiac should have in that segment, a small RWD sedan/coupe would be perfect, but it deosn't have it yet or may never will, so why not give the product that Pontiac does have the performance edge they deserve. This is true for any of their products they sell. Just another nail in Pontiac's coffin.

I can promise you that if you roll up to a Z28 or WS6 on the street or track stock for stock you WILL lose. Remember: An F-body (6spd esp.) will run 13.2-13.4 all day, your pathetic Cobalt will be running 14.2 maybe just maybe, a few will dip into high 13's. Sorry to burst your little bubble there buddy, but consider yourself lucky if you can beat an LT1 Fbody. Oh if you do race Mom's car vs that and you claim to win, myself and anybody else will demand a video of this.
I think the vast majority of us realize that the new turbo Balt won't be beating up LS1 F-bodies.

I certainly hope that you're proud of the fact that your post makes F-body owners look bad as well.

$25K for a Cobalt.
No thanks.

You could have a Mustang GT for that much.

You can beat a mufftang gt with a Turbo Cobalt, not by a mile, but you can beat them. 300hp in a 3500lb+ car versus 260 in a 2900 (and change) car is a W on the books for the SS.

Seems that's the entire list of options. The SS will be in the next batch of prices I upload to the server, most likely tonight or tomorrow night.
Is it possible to get the Cobalt SS without that stupid looking wing?

$25K? Where? It says $22,995. That's not $25K...and a Mustang GT is $27,260. And why not $25K for a Cobalt? People pay that or more for a Prius, at least with the Cobalt you can have some fun.

Sorry, I have to disagree with this. The big ricer spoiler looks like ass whether you're 18 or 80.
