WOW, pretty positive review.

I think those guys don't like Japanese cars though........don't know why.

Wonder how much GM paid these guys.....j/k

pretty good review. Too bad they couldn't test the 6-spd.

Re: Miles around: Hybrid Malibu

Wow, those guys are annoying......good review though for the Malibu Hybrid! I wonder if these guys ever tested a Camry Hybrid? They mention that Chevy is one of the first to use an engine this size with a hybrid.....but the Camry has had a 2.4 I4 Hybrid for a while now (and then there's the Altima Hybrid w/ a 2.5 I4 using Toyota's hybrid system). Just thinking out loud.

Yeah, sounds like these guys are GM fans. Doesn't sound like they like imports much.

Re: Miles around: Hybrid Malibu

I don't think their GM biased necessarily, I think they recognize an excellent product from GM. How many of you have driven and given the new Malibu an up close look, it's a fine little car. I really believe these two are giving the Malibu the same breaks they have been giving Toyota and Honda. GM fans have become are use to being busted in the chops, and usually for not much reason other than Japanese car love by the main stream media. It's a good review of a good product, GM needs lots more of these, good reviews and good products.

My understanding is that the two-mode cannot be put into a FWD car. Does anyone else know if this is 100% true ?

I thought it could be, especially as it'll go into the Vue next year, if my memory serves.

I think it doesn't fit into the existing FWD vehicles due to size considerations, but it's effectively the same size as a 4-speed automatic (as the full hybrid tech fits into the transmission housing).

Also, again if memory serves, GM was working on FWD/AWD and truck RWD/AWD while they had Mercedes and BMW help port the system to automotive RWD/AWD. They should all come online by 2010 and I'd not be surprised to see them in cars as varied as the Vue, the Enclave, the next gen Malibu, the CTS, as well as the trucks that currently have them.

Re: Miles around: Hybrid Malibu

Yep a positive review with a well placed criticism of the less than stellar miles per gallon fuel savings which could be better.

Very much so.
They should give these two their own TV show.

Exactly. The big mistake was not turning the engine off when the AC is on. I live way up here in Nova Scotia and I use the AC from May to October... anyone in the south would need it all the time...so basically you never see a gain from shutting the engine off.

I'd be happier with the much simpler and nearly as efficient 4cyl/6speed.
