LA Times PRAISING a future GM variant???

This article in the LA Times (of all places) is an incredibly glowing assessment of the Subaru Tribeca, which is rumored to be the base for the Saab 9-6x. Think the LA Times will give the GM-derived Saab 9-6x such high marks??? Eh, probably not, considering it IS the LA Times.

Sounds like someone wants GM advertising $$$ to return.

On the other hand, $38,300 for a Subaru? Oh my.

Can't believe he liked it. Sounded like he was more impressed by un-Subaru it is, than the car itself.

If the 9-6x is anything like the 9-7x or 9-2x, it doesn't deserve high marks.

Yah, which demonstrates how spineless the rag really is. Grow some balls, L.A. Times; at least be consistent with your ire for all things GM.

Now you just come across as total wankers, and no one can respect you.

By the by, GM should continue to withhold all advertising from the Times... and so should the dealers. $60 million plus is no small chunk of change.

They still think it's a Subaru, not a GM. Wait until the actual GM variant comes out, and see what they say.

Interesting. I was just about to post a "Reader's Car Review" later today seeing as the wife and I test drove one of the first 7-passenger B9 Limited SUVs from the closest Subaru dealer. Let's just say we're rethinking if we actually want one or not.

Re: LA Times PRAISES Subaru Tribeca

Will the interior make it into the Saab? Thats its best feature IMO but would be a huge departure from sabbdome...Maybe GM would be better off using the upcoming crossovers as the basis for the crossover Saab. A turbo HF 6 making 300 would be compelling in this application

A nitpick - our favorite author used hp/L to say how great the engine was, but fails to mention it's 219 torque. Not having driven it - I can't comment, but 219 in a 4200lb car is something I would question without an uplevel option.

I thought the Tribeca was based on a stretched Legacy/Outback platform, which, AFAIK is a completely Subaru platform.

Hmm...I thought the Tribeca was on the Theta platform that underpins the Saturn Vue and Chevy Equinox/Pontiac Horred...ummm Torrent.

Sorry I couldn't get my review done tonight...but here's the jist of it. We liked the interior, the powertrain was smooth (but taxed at over 60MPH), and the styling isn't much better in person.

Re: LA Times PRAISES Subaru Tribeca

I just read that the Tribeca is already hitting some US dealerships. I don't know when we first heard about thi... but it seems to me that it wasn't all that long ago. I think maybe that's the way to go... keep it secret until shortly before it's introduced... then the vehicle appears much more fresh. Same with the Charger... there was speculation for a while, but nothing official from Chrysler... so it came out with a bit more of a bang.
