Interesting FOX News review of 2008 Cadillac CTS V-6 DI

2008 Cadillac CTS V-6 DI
Wednesday, May 28, 2008

By Gary Gastelu

There was a time when referring to Cadillac as the “Standard of the World” wasn’t a punch line. There was also a time when two-tone paint jobs and tailfins were considered “classy.”

It was the same time, and it was long ago.

After getting by for years selling large cars with cavernous trunks to people named Tony who needed room for golf clubs and their "associates," Cadillac decided it wanted its title back, and started selling a car called the CTS in 2003.

With a cameo appearance in the film "The Matrix: Reloaded" to bolster its new image, the company tried to shake off its gynecologists and goodfellas reputation and attract younger buyers accustomed to spending their money on cars from Germany and Japan.

It worked. The car was a success and did set the standard, but only for America.

The 2008 CTS meets a higher one.

The CTS has buttons and dials too, but they’re easy to use and do things you actually want to do with buttons and dials, like change the radio station or adjust the volume. What really stands apart, though, is the available 40 GB hard drive, with a feature called Timeshift. It works like a TiVo, recording up to an hour of broadcast or satellite radio programming, even with the car turned off.
This bears highlighting, another review basically showing Cadillac has basically beaten the germans and japanese at technology integration for infotainment. Now, if they would just build a few more cars with this system.

The written article was much more flattering than the video. Chalk another one up to the great CTS!

I dont 100% agree though, it still has a bit of a gangsta look (he said goodfellas), I hope to hell cadillac never loose that!

I wish someone would start showing a black CTS instead of red though!!!!

Uh, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Cadillac appealing to gynecologists or having them drive their cars; gynecologists need well-designed, well-engineered cars, too, you know!

A black CTS is stunning in person.
It'll make you start drooling.

Agreed! I got my '08 CTS 4 in black. I still stare at that front end after parking it ... this is the kind of styling that would make Bill Mitchell proud. Easily my favorite GM car that I've owned.

Re: Interesting FOX News review of 2008 Cadillac CTS V-6 DI

I was at the local mall today and GM had a mini car show on in center court. The same red Cadillac CTS was there, along with the new Chevy Aveo with the big-mouthed front and Pontiac Wave (Canada-only, maybe)...Also there was a hybrid Malibu and GMC Acadia.

I have seen many CTS in this area, but this is the first chance I have had to sit in one. Well packaged interior...Wanted to play with the info system, but of course the GM employees had disconnected the battery. What was more annoying was the GM show employee left the seat up as far as she could...She is only 5'2", with heels! So anyone like me, who is slightly over 6'0" could barely get in it. Morons...And that same red color...GM, please show it in black to impress the Mercedes, BMW crowd.

Other thoughts, the Malibu is really nice. Excellent interior...Very nice car, even though I only got to see the base hybrid. They mentioned it stickered for $27K Canadian. I wonder how that compares to the U.S. hybrid price?

Re: Interesting FOX News review of 2008 Cadillac CTS V-6 DI

I adore the new CTS. I'd buy one if it would fit my entire family. And it comes with AWD as an option, so it's perfect for us northern types.

I can seriously see a CTS in my future. It's just such a nice car and lost out to the Enclave solely because of room.

I do so wish the 2008 CTS was the 2004 CTS so I could have enjoyed it for 4 years before getting the Enclave.

And the interior and the infotainment system does put the Germans and Japanese to shame. It's simply sumptuous inside and the controls just work. No stupid i-Drive attempting to be high-tech when all it is is highly frustrating.

Now GM, get Cadillac's entire lineup like the CTS and you'll have to beat back the customers with a stick.

Re: Interesting FOX News review of 2008 Cadillac CTS V-6 DI

Saw three '09 CTS-V's mules at Summit Point in WV earlier this month at a Gen I CTS-V meet. Sat in one, and the Recaro seats are a great improvement. Would LOVE to have something one notch smaller (ala an M3) with a TT 3.6L 6-spd MT pushing about 375-400 hp getting 30 MPG hwy.

I'll take mine in black.

It could happen.

Re: Interesting FOX News review of 2008 Cadillac CTS V-6 DI

I think I might try to pick one up used in a few. I really really like this car, besides the Solstice, G8 and possibly the new Accord, its the only vehicle I could see myself driving. Now, if Cadillac just introduces a smaller car, and a better, larger car with more technology, more power, the works-they will have it all, or at least be better of than they currently are.

The more I see it, the more I am thinking that the CTS will be my next vehicle to replace my aging (but faithful) Acura TL Type S. I don't know if it will be coupe or sedan or "V" version...but I am really, really liking the CTS!
