Your rationale is makes as much sense as someone expecting that the base Cobalt XFE is going to deliver the same lap times as a Cobalt SS.

"I dont know how this made it around the ring in 8.22 seconds", -its an automatic Cobalt LT sedan

G8 V6 is the most pointless vehicle in the market at the time. I'll be in the market in a few months and if my finances allow it G8 GT will be high on my list. On the other hand whats the point of buying the V6 model? Inferior performance, inferior fuel economy, inferior interior to anything in the price range. At least with the V8 model you are getting a great engine but what are you getting with the V6 model?

Dude. What's the point of the Porsche Boxster? I meam, it's as slow as a slug.
It has inferior performance, inferior gas mileage and inferior to anything in its price range.
The S2000 comes with a better shifter, at almost 1/2 the price.
The only good thing about the car is its handling.

The Porsche Boxster is the most pointless car on the market right now. Who would ever think of buying one?

When you buy a Boxster you can say you drive a Porche, some people are willing to pay extra for that. On the other hand if the Pontiac is to sell a car it has to be a superior value to anything it competes with, nobody is going to buy a Pontiac just because of the brand name. It sucks, but that's reality these days.

Fourtunately, your world-view doesn't jive with reality.

The Pontiac is actually a RWD sedan. That in itself makes it intrinsically more valuable than other, more relevant cars (Avalon, Maxima, etc.). The fact that it comes as a sedan and has all that rear-seating room makes the car even more valuable.

Just to show you how off-kilter your thinking is, which car would you buy with your own money? The Accord and Avalon V6's? 300 V6? Or the G8 V6? They all cost about the same (the Pontiac may be like $1,000 more, but you are getting what you pay for...).
If you don't have some sort of abnormality or direct interest in the above-mentioned companies, you'd probably do what most enthusiasts would do: you'd buy the Pontiac G8.

The V6 model is actually expensive for what it offers. I drive a 06 CTS currently and the power is adequate, nothing more than that. Considering that the G8 V6 uses the same drive train but is ~400 lbs heavier I expect even less impressive performance from the car. Did you note that plastic steering wheel on the base model? Find me another $27.5 car with a plastic steering wheel. Throw in the 3.6 DI coupled with an A6 and fix some minor interior issues and we might have something here. To be honest considering that the GT is only $2.5k more it's crazy not to go for it. I expect some nice deals on the 08 models in a few months, I just might get the G8 GT.

Is the price difference between Canada and the US anything to do with tariffs or import duty rather than exchange rate?

It goes 6.5 sec with a manual, and the car weighs almost 500 lbs less than the G8.
Despite having less displacement, 20 fewer horses, and less torque, the 528i gets better fuel economy (18/27 vs 17/25), and it is noticeably faster than the G8 V6. Says a lot about the base 3.6 doesn't it?

Nope. We have "free" trade. There shouldn't be any price difference at all. We pay taxes on our purchases separately. The only thing that could be higher is the destination/delivery charge.

G8 V6=regular gas
528= premium gas

Suddenly, you gas cost is about the same, and that's not a good thing for a car 500 lbs lighter.
Why are we even comparing $27K car to a $46k car?

Re: G8 V6 review

The point of the V6 is that not everyone needs 361 horsepower. I can't believe I'm saying that the 26x horsepower that the V6 puts out now isn't enough (i drive a 3800) but if it could get direct injection, and then the 2.0 turbo ecotec could take its place, it would be an excellent car, all around. And lets get rid of the plastic steering wheel and shifter, I hate when I go on ebay to look at the car, and its loaded with leather, sunroof (V6 of course) and they didn't add a leather steering wheel and shifter to the cars option sheet.
2.0 Ecotec - 260hp
3.6 DI HF V6 - 300 hp
6.0 L76 V8 - 361 hp
6.2 LS3 V8 - 422 hp
I think that makes for a great lineup of engines, and all that is lacking from this car is a manual transmission on any trim level. If the Camaro is getting a V6 manual option, lets see it on the G8

So you're saying a much lighter car with less peak and low end power will accelerate faster, get better mpg, and cost more?

Premium gas is not that much of a premium per tankful. Assuming a .50 cents spread between regular and premium, the diffrence is 9.00, if you are pumping 18 gallons. But then again assuming $4.00 for regular, you're still looking at a $72 fill-up. $9.00 is nothing next to $72.

I think you should be saying that to the person who made the comparison of the two cars, not me.

My point was that a 18/27 premium fuel car will cost to drive about the same, if not slightly more, as a 17/25 regular fuel car.
