Turbos have a better upgrade path. You can always slap a bigger turbo and flow more fuel. Ask me how I know...

Re: Full Test: 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe

in the specs it said that Edmunds "observed" fuel economy was 27.1!! That is great, I expected "observed" fuel economy at or below the 22 mpg city rating!

Yes, but the Pontiac was far better looking, followed by the Buick. The Chevy and Cadillac were the worst.

Understand that this is just my opinion, but I have been tweeking turbochared cars for a while starting with my old Chrysler Conquest tsi to my current Supra. My friends have F-body's & fox-bodys and they all supercharge their cars. I'm not saying that there aren't some advantages to supercharging, but It seems like the turbocharde path has more options beyond the initial few steps. Just my opinion and I my be way off base. I don't claim to be a supercharger expert and I don't want to start a flame war.

supercharge is better off the line for that 'instant' power. If you youtube any Cobalt SS vs. Neon SRT4 race, the SS will be ahead through first gear, maybe up to 40...but by 60+ the Turbo just compounds boost and the SRT ends up pulling a few car lengths where the S/C is 'running out' of steam and the 2.0 4cylinder is the main driver of increased speed, lol.

JMO.

GM agrees, turbo can make more power in most applications. ZR1 has the most advanced s/c available, with some kind of new design. However, the LNF makes way more power than the LSJ and its on par with a S-2 LSJ.

You know, when the first piece of Cobalt SS/SC info was released, I said the engine should have been turbocharged and not supercharged.

Some GMIers thought I was just finding things to complain about.

Re: Full Test: 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe

I love the engine being in a cheaper car...compared to the high price tag of a SKY RL...but in the Cobalt? They should have just released it as an Astra RL first, then put it in the Cobalt when it is redesigned...that's my only main complaint...

EDIT: Damn...after reading the full review, the Astra was running amazing slalom numbers and same skid pad numbers as the MS3 with only the 140hp engine! Now if it had the LNF...imagine what it could do!

The Astra was sort of rushed to the USA. By the time GM is able to engineer and produce a LNF Astra, this generation of Astra will be gone.

Don't they share the delta chassis and the same transmission?
