First Drive: 2009 Hummer H3T Alpha

It's ironic that the first US pickup since 1986 with a seven-slot grille wears a Hummer badge instead of a Jeep logo (technically, the Jeep Comanche, produced from 1986-1992, had an eight-bar opening, and the Brute pickup from American Expedition Vehicles is an aftermarket conversion).
This after Jeep teased us for years with prototype pickups. The 2003 Scrambler Concept was slated for production but never arrived. The brilliant Gladiator concept, shown at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show, remains in cold storage. And last year the Wrangler JT Concept was baptized during the 2007 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah but you’ll only be able to drive one if you enlist in the Egyptian army.

^^^Deffinatly the best GM pickup! Fuel prices or not, this thing should be a hit! I would deffinatly have one! I am totally smitten by the H3T, although I do wish there was a extended cab or regular cab version with a longer bed. A regular cab would be my number one pick though.

Best pickup would be a Colorado reg cab on the H3 platform, like the mules they have running around w/ the H3T...check sidebar at end of column on pickuptruck.com:

Re: First Drive: 2009 Hummer H3T Alpha

I do love this truck, but like every other Hummer, it looks like its going to cost an arm and a leg. Now the "ZR3" Colorado that was at the end of the article would be more my style. Or better yet, if Jeep would pull their head out of their a$$ and make the Gladiator .

Great article, great truck!

I listened to it a couple times and I agreed with you at first thinking he said "that this is not the most capable", but after re listening, he says "if this is not". He jumbled up his words a bit I think.

Very nice truck. I would say that its the most capable off-roading pickup. I really like the body colored grill and those extra large tires. Overall the truck is very nice.

I'll take an I5/Manual Adventure, please. I do wish they'd hurry up with the diesel though.

The H3T going up Hells' Gate is my laptop's wallpaper.

Its not just you. That claim of it being "the most capable offroad truck" makes no sense to me either

Man, you aren't kidding. That would improve the wimpy looks of the Colorado/Canyon by 100%. Those trucks look nice.

Is GM still making the H2T?

Now that would tackle my jeep fetish and my truck need all in one go. Are they blind of the the success of the new Liberty and 4 door Wrangler. Jeep is finally becoming what it needs to be.

Sorry, this wasn't the best video I've done. It came together on-the-fly with a videographer who was on the trip.

I stand by my comment that I think this is the most capable *factory* off-road truck available. Dodge Ram Power Wagon is a very good rival though. But I think the H3T's size gives it an advantage in the tight spots. At the bottom of my review I include a link to our earlier story about the Power Wagon.

It's a shame Jeep didn't greenlight the Gladiator. I still drool over that truck.
