Re: Finally CTS vs. BMW 5 Series Review

It's a shame that finally somebody got the right comparison, but that somebody proved to have no more sophistication in or insight into automotive matters than my brother-in-law.

I wouldn't say "favorable," but the articles recognize CTS' strengths, but realize that it still needs to be taken up a notch to really compete with the 5.
I didn't take that from the article. What I took away is the BMW is a few thousand better in limited applications but not 15K better. And thats without the amazing infotainment system in the CTS that has been called best in industry by more than one reviewer - compared to IDrive. Best in industry means better than what's in an A8 or S Class. Its not talked about enough and this car wasn't equipped with it.

I read it as a very favorable review that basically said for a daily driver the CTS is the equal - if not better car due to its ride / handling balance, and when price is taken into account, any comparison is laughable.

The 5 series just got pinned as an overpriced, harsh vehicle designed for autobahn speeds where the CTS is a bargain designed for american roads. And this happened in a magazine read by people that actually do care about the price difference.

Re: Finally CTS vs. BMW 5 Series Review

Think back to WHEN BMW switched over to the 6 speeds.
Did GM have any 6 speeds available at the time?

Cuz i was under the impression that when they switched to the 6 speeds, that was when they switched to ZF. We all know the 5 speeds were GM transmissions (or at least most models were)

"One of the first things I noticed while driving the Cadillac was the cockpit. The first-generation CTS had cheap plastic switches and controls donated from lesser lights in GM's pantheon; who wants their Caddy cabin to resemble a Cobalt's? Luckily the midlevel bean counter who made that decision is shackled and gagged in a dungeon somewhere in East Lansing, Mich. "

People are very stubborn. You read some of the comments after these articles and people still find something to complain about, and none the less with no proof. Funny thing though if you ask these people if they are opened minded they will say yes, while bashing a product they never owned or plan on owning.

I think the only thing the CTS really needs is more power. Something between the DI V6 engine and the upcoming V series.

Apparently, a new lightweight 3.0L Twin Turbo V6, rated at 420HP is already en route.
That should be the competition to the 550i.

Apparently yes..but..this new engine will come in 201x..i think we will see new Bmw 5 by then which could have a new V8 TT with more power then the one in present x6.
Nevertheless i hope GM build that kind of engine. 3.0 l V6 with TT and 420 HP in non V model..sounds excellent and CTS should have that kind of engine.

Thats exactly what the CTS needs. Just curious, why not just put Twin Turbo's on the 3.6L V6?

Re: Finally CTS vs. BMW 5 Series Review

Although I like both cars, the new Cadillac CTS is definitely a better value over the 5-series. And it's about time someone compares the CTS to the 5-series......
