Re: CTS a good enough sports sedan
Well I have to disagree.
"Good enough" in my opinion is more akin to acquiring someone the calibre of Neumiller, but landing a Cedotal instead. Sure the 535ix is a fine automobile, but it doesn't outclass the CTS in the same way, say, as easily as an Fairchild outclasses a Gautreaux. In fact, I give Cadillac due credit. With the CTS it was obvious they were only aiming as high as maybe a Hanley or maybe a Schubert, but instead lucked up and got a Ditcharo! |

OK, maybe I was thinking something closer to Roy Clark is a fine musician, but he does not outclass Bill Monroe. But the point is the same. |

Good enough? Give me a break. This car is world class. Fortunately, most others do not share his opinion.

Re: CTS a good enough sports sedan
Two things I didn't understand...
1) BMW builds BMWs that look like BMWs. Not much has changed in their design since the 80's. This is similar with Mercedes. Nobody ever complains. Porsche style evolves at the same rate as trees and never a complaint. The CTS is a fresh design and they complain its dated. WTF? There is such a double standard. Plus he states the Caddy still draws more attention then the BMW. Totally confused. 2) Is there a reason every good thing written has to come off as a back handed compliment? Can you imagine someone saying a Lexus is too quiet?

Re: CTS a good enough sports sedan
he said what really comes down to as one bad thing, and its a sbjective thing at that. i for one prefer the in your faceness of the caddy. he criticizes it for being different, here's his quote:
"The CTS design still draws more glances from passersby than the “seen-it” BMW, but seems badly outdated only a year into its redesign – the stacked headlights that were in such vogue back in 2003 when the CTS was first introduced have been largely abandoned as automakers go back to squintier horizontal designs. Ditto the creases along the belt line and the vertical taillights." its a generally positive review, but there is a feeling that he doesnt like the car. the m5 might have much less torque, but the 535xi has equal hp and torque- and that torque curve on the caddy is pretty high.

Re: CTS a good enough sports sedan
What a complete *******. He compares a $41,000 CTS ($58,000 as tested) with a $71,000 BMW 5 Series? A comparison with a 3 Series seems more inline.
And in this paragraph he talks in a circle, "The CTS suspension is geared toward firmness, which is a nice departure from the traditional Cadillac Cottonelle softness (and you can figure out from that description how it is at handling). The CTS hones in on a corner precisely and it’s about as easy to stray from a cornering line as a Sundin is to move off a puck. The compromise is a harsher than expected ride for a Cadillac, with the CTS literally jostling occupants as it navigates this winter’s pockmarked streets." He says, and let me paraphrase, the firmer ride from Cadilllac is a nice departure, but it is firmer than what I expected from a Cadillac, so he was disappointed. He expected the Cadillac to ride like a boat, and when it did not, he was disappointed. I'm gonna have to read more of Mr. Duarte, to gage his writing. What a ****ing dick? Seriously, some of these auto journalists talk out their *******. Anyone can call themselves an outo journalist just to drive cool cars. This guy has about as much substance as a cream puff.

Re: CTS a good enough sports sedan
Outdated styling????? What the heck is this writer thinking? I know they have long Winters up in Canada, but this self induced brain freeze is actually laughable.
I to, much like many other posters have looked at the new CTS. I think it is an awesome evolution of the original design. I also love the interior details and finish. I may be biased, but, damn, this is one wonderful looking automobile in my opinion. Not trying to take anything away from the Bimmer, as it is equally a nice vehicle. Either way it is nice to see the General taking the competition on with a world class motor vehicle! |

Re: Bah, CTS gets a poor review.
You're right, redTT. In fact, it's almost as old styling as the Audi TT, in fact. Gosh, when the hell are they ever going to upgrade that car's styling? Same basic silhouette for way too long. And that Porsche 911? How 'bout the 3-series?

Re: CTS a good enough sports sedan
Let's just say for the heck of it the 535 xi is a better car. It's also $15K more!
If I'm shopping for a sub $40K car I'm not cross-shopping for a sub $60K too. That's just dumb. Then you can easily say the 535xi is not worth the extra $15K. Shoot. You can go get a Smart Fortwo for that difference. http://www.cars.com/go/compare/trimC...,USB80BMC162A0

I get it. Maybe one of those hockey sticks he made in his references knocked him up side the head. If not, maybe it should have. What a quack!!!
