Corvette Z06 Outperforms but is still 3rd

Car and Driver compared a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. 2006 Ferrari F430 vs. 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo. The Corvette outperformed both the other cars, was listed $60,000 cheaper than the Porsche and $110,000 cheaper than the Ferrari. Still came in third.....

Given the huge differences in prices, I'd say that the Corvette did great. Its a true bargain supercar.

Mainly for the "cheap" interior in the car that is less than half of the other two competitors. Oh, and if you subtract the Gotta have it factor, and the fun to drive factor (both of which are totally personal opinion and cannot be attributed to fact at all), the Results are pretty different. The final score without the aforementioned 'bonuses" were:

Corvette Z06 = 154
Ferrari F430 = 149
Porsche 911 Turbo = 157

Another side note is that the Porsche got high marks for its back seat.

stupid car and driver

they really shouldn't even compare the vette to those vehicles. They obviously aren't in the same price bracket so how can you truely compare them? It isn't fair to call the Chevrolet's interior cheap when the car doesn't cost but half of what the Porche or Ferrari does. You'd think the cost would be a handicap in favor of the Vette!

I'd like to see Porsche or Ferrari offer an entry level price vehicle to go against the Z06 in price.. then we'd have a fair comparo!

The Z06 OWNS both of those bloated, overpriced cars.

That's not too fair to say about C&D. I've had a subscription for at least the the last 5 years and they have ALWAYS cheered the Z06... Always....

I got the issue that this article appeared in 3 weeks ago and read through it twice to really understand why the Vette took 3rd.

#1- The test was performed over in Germany. (Home Field advantage)

#2- The main sticky point that C&D had with the Z06 IN COMPARISON with the other two was the cheap feel of the interior.

#3- They were pitting it a $70,940 Corvette against a $130,265 Porsche and a $192,545 Ferrari.

The last time C&D tested the Z06 in a comparo this year it was against the Porsche Cayman and the Dodge Viper and it spanked them tremendously hard.

C&D called it correct on this one IMO.

The Z06 is SO GOOD that they put it in with the SUPER big boys. It even beat both of them in the 0-150mph, rolling 5-60mph, braking 70-0 and it even pulled a 1.01 G test while the others rated in at 0.97G's.

It even posted better track times. But if money is no object, the Porsche is hard not to choose. it has a good interior, almost as fast as the 'vette and is easier to live with day to day. But, all those things are subjective.

Re: Corvette Z06 Outperforms but is still 3rd

The "Gotta Have It" factor is ridiculous and removes all credibility from C&D. That is a HUGE completely objective thing to throw in there.

The fact is that the Z06 delivers supercar performance for a price that average people could conceivably save to buy. The Z06 is a steal and blows away the competition.

If money was no object, I would choose the Corvette Monday thru Saturday and buy two of them on Sunday. I would then race every Porsche and Ferrari I could find.

Re: Corvette Z06 Outperforms but is still 3rd

I dropped C and D a while back also. No need to irritate myself.

It seems that in their comparos the American cars are almost always last, no matter how much they may have praised them in earlier articles. I found I didn't need to read the articles anymore to know pretty much what the results would be. Why bother?
