i guess the fact that deisel fuel is almost 1.00 more per gallon means nothing, and that if you drive it and coax it enough, you just might be able to go a whole commute without using any gas also means nothing. these two details, along with the tahoe being about 14k dollars cheaper (when comparably equipped), puts up a strong fight for the tahoe.

however, i do want a diesel and my next truck will be one, the gm 4.5L that is. a diesel-two mode would be icing on the cake for me.

I didn't know the Tahoe Hybrid was still so heavy. I thought it was only 5500lb?

I am glad to hear GM is doing it.

Re: Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid vs. Mercedez-Benz Gl320 CDI

It pretty much shows the Tahoe Hybrid for what it is. A 4.5L Duramax Tahoe would make much more sense (and wouldn't lose money for GM on every unit). GM's two-mode SUVs are not going to sell very well and for the money they really don't make any sense at all.

It's another shallow attempt by GM to greenwash themselves and it's not being bought by most media outlets.

If you figure the cost of a battery pack for a Prius is $2,000, and it costs maybe $5,000 more than a comparably equipped Toyota Corolla without offering much more in terms of space, it will take well over 100,000 miles for the Prius' improved fuel economy to pay for itself.

The same goes for the Civic versus the Civic hybrid.

So GM's "greenwashing" is no worse than anyone else's.

Yes and to add to your statement you need to pay a premium of $3k-$5k for the Diesel engine option while paying an extra $1 per gallon to keep it running. The 2 Mode option is probably a cheaper for the Tahoe compared to the Diesel engine option.

So, you can make a Prius get high 20's low 30's by slamming the gas all the time.

The Hybrid Tahoe get's the EPA numbers and can even do a little better as had been reported by auto journalists driving the car conservatively.

Not really. It's $5,000 below a Tahoe LTZ and comes nicely loaded.

My local dealers are advertising $5,000 off the hybrid now too!

I should have finished my thoughts on the link prior to posting yesterday.

In my mind you could beat on a diesel and not get as much of a mileage drop which is why I think the diesel will be the better way to go for light trucks.

Used hard the hybrid will not provide any significant real life benefit over the gas version as the hybrid will be using the gasoline engine almost all of the time.

True. You have to drive a Hybrid correctly to get the mileage.
