Wow. What a positive review. In fact a very positive review. It sounds to me, that GM struck the right balance between comfort and performance with the new Cobalt SS's suspension.

Re: Car & Driver '08 Chevrolet Cobalt SS - First Drive Review

I've read all five reviews and I can't freakin' wait until the '09 model with it's Bluetooth and USB hits the lots. I really hope they bring back an orange color, namely 28U Brazen Inferno Orange from the Solstice.

I love the styling. It's not gimmicky or complicated, just clean, smooth and classic. The sedan is kinda boring but the coupe is great. JMO

Re: Car & Driver '08 Chevrolet Cobalt SS - First Drive Review

Personally I'm actually surprised the Media seems to be focusing on just how good of a performer this car is and not that it's got hard this and it's behind the civic that! The fact that it's to be replaced in two years means the replacement had better be awesome!!!

"and there’s talk of offering a programmable data logger that would replace the A-pillar-mounted boost gauge"

If they are talking about makeing this part of the DIC, I hope they reconsider. In my SKY Redline, I hated having to scroll through all the different menus to get to the boost gauge. Leave it as a pillar mounted gauge.

Re: Car & Driver '08 Chevrolet Cobalt SS - First Drive Review

Chevy is good at taking a average car, and putting more horses under the hood. I am sure C&D doesn't have good things to say about a normal Cobalt which is a shame.

I hope the new Cobalt will change that. Not everybody wants a SS, but a SS sedan does sound interesting.

This would make for an excellent daily driver. Especially the sedan. 30MPG and can whip through traffic. Thats what I am talking about.

Not bad! I'd still take the coupe personally, but if you want a superior product to replace your SRT4 NEON then this is desireable.

Re: Car & Driver '08 Chevrolet Cobalt SS - First Drive Review

Here's some tips about C&D reviews.

"First Drives" tend to be soft ball reviews that are more like a company press release than a review because its usually based upon very limited seat time and just initial impressions. Don't expect anything near a hard hitting review.

The "Road Test" is much more meaningful and much pickier with "second opinions" and such.

The "Comparison Test" is really the most important. It's when they rank the cars in the same class and price range.

Since this was a "First Drive", I won't get my hopes up.

Personally, I'm going to hold off and keep my fingers crossed that they release an Astra RL with the LNF...the astra with this engine would be amazing!

Me too. I'm thinking it's either a turn-by-turn setup similar to the G8 (even though it looks like it should have a genunine sat-nav setup), or a docking station for a Garmin or another portable unit. Heck, the Bluetooth alone has me jazzed. I'm definitely going to check out the '09 SS Sedan, especially now that I'm hearing the Mazdaspeed3 may get the axe for '09. Oh well, I guess good things can't last forever.

The $275 in dash nav is a slot with a fold up map in it.
