There's professionalism in automotive journalism, and then there's this.

Re: Automotive News: Malibu 2.4 LTZ
I don't think it was 'unprofessional', infact, I enjoyed the style of review, he showed many views of the car, and he actually drove it. My feeling is simply he did not relay the facts, fact or fictional correctly. The MPG rating he spouted was incorrect, and his view of accelleration on the highway was unreasonable at most. But to ME, I enjoyed the presentation.

Re: Automotive News: Malibu 2.4 LTZ
I haven't driven one so I really can't call him an idiot, but that being said unless the 6 speed is just geared way too tall, he must not be used to 4 cyl mid-sized cars. I did drive a previous gen accord lx 4cyl auto and it wasn't bad. It wasn't a sports car but it wasn't a slug like he's saying the Malibu 4cyl is either.

Re: Automotive News: Malibu 2.4 LTZ
not a bad review. he hammered the 'scrawny' engine a little too much, - even though it's really big for a 2.4 4 cyl. typical american attitude...he doesn't believe in premium small cars. although european cars tend to be lighter for the same hp.
maybe when it's in manual mode, the shifts *should* be tightened up...a software fix. |

Re: Automotive News: Malibu 2.4 LTZ
Maybe he's speaking to the overall size of the motor, not just the displacement of its cylinders.
Don't really know.

Well this was kind of nasty. Sounds like he knows that the Fords he loves cannot hold a candle to the interior/exterior appearance of this car so he must find something to bash.
Jerk.

Re: Automotive News: Malibu 2.4 LTZ
Not sure where the guy is coming from... getting paid for a job he probably shouldn't have. Moreover, his mental state is either stuck in the last decade of cheap gas or he has more disposable income than many Americans who no longer have it because they are sticking it in their fuel tanks. I'm guessing the reason he's mentally stuck in previous times of cheap gas is because he has a job where he's overpaid doing these crappy reviews and is thus out of touch with what most Americans are being forced to do: Sacrifice for the greedy few.
If you want more power and can afford it, get the 3.6L. Otherwise, the car serves the segment of the market it's supposed to. Agree on the need of more tech features, otherwise, lame review. Last edited by killfort : 06-23-2008 at 02:03 PM. |

Re: Automotive News: Malibu 2.4 LTZ
What did you people think the reviews of the 2.4L 6-speed were going to be?
GM needs to do what it should have at introduction - offer the 3500 V6 on retail models. Drove an HHR and G6 back to back and the 3500 in the G6 had much more power than the HHR and got the same MPG. Nothing wrong with the 2.4L/6-speed combo for those who want it but don't think the 6-speed boosts power and "streching the powerband" with more ratios isn't the same as 50 more HP and 50 lb/ft of Torque AND the 3500 has hydraulic Power Steering! |

The 3500 had more power than the HHR? Thanks Captain obvious, have you ever heard of Torque? Not sure if you understand, but transmissions don't "add' power, they simpy make use of the power the engine has, in this case providing more gears allows the minimum power for the weight more readily available by having more cogs to keep in in the appropriate power band. you say adding more ratio's is not the same as adding HP...............? You have lost me.

Re: Automotive News: Malibu 2.4 LTZ
Well, - think we all knew these kinds of BS reviews from these kinds of BS sources were going to happen - this is the Malibu thats going to affect 4cly 5at CAMRY sales - more than anything has so far especially in light of the market.
See, in the way a big part of those buyers buy stuff - this 'Bu beats that Camry at the Toyota style 'numbers' game. Nothing with a 5 speed or better AT ( yes I know) - is slower in this midsize class than a 4 banger Camry so that's also part of why they try and paint it this way -ie they want the buying public to think this one offers no relief over that ones big weakness.

Re: Automotive News: Malibu 2.4 LTZ
I think they all bought the same stock in the same OEM on the same day - probably from the same broker.
