I would like to ad it's the only 400 + hp "super car" that does not have the gas guzzler tax imposed on it. Not to shabby for a 1955 design. This is Chevy at its finest!

I like it. Given credit when credit is due.

I saw 4 new vettes this Sunday driving down to the jersey shore, the car looks great from all angles.

To me - its the only car in the entire GM lineup that represents what GM should be doing for every single car - offering more than the competition for less money. Its also the only car that most incentives don't apply to. Thats how you rebuild a reputation. It represents everything GM should be.

For me the Corvette has long represented the peak of General Motors' design and engineering efforts. I look at the 'Vette and think "This is what GM is capable of". Then I look at some of their more mediocre offerings and think "If that's what they're capable of, why are they building THIS crap?!"

Exactly right. This Corvette embodies all that the General could be across all it's lines. Modern good looks, solid engineering and incredible value. What more could one want.

Couldn't you make the same comment for almost all manufactures?

I really wish the higher management of GM would see the fact that if they put a little more effort in all there car lines instead of just putting the bare mininum they can, people will notice it and start buying more of the GM line. This article goes to show that the Corvette is a great car. I wish I could purchased one now, but my income level will not allow that for now.

"Then I look at some of their more mediocre offerings and think "If that's what they're capable of, why are they building THIS crap?!""

Three quick points as to why you see what you see:

(1) You get what you pay for. You should expect a $60,000 Corvette to be three times better than a $20,000 econobox.

(2) Government regulations. If a large percentage of GM cars were anywhere near the Corvette in performance, GM would fail to meet federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) restrictions. For every Corvette they sell, they have to sell three or four Aveos to make the federal government happy.

(3) Sales volume. If every GM car were priced anywhere near the Corvette, GM would be out of business due to lack of market share.

And they are in the same basic price range, hence my point about getting wat you pay for. GM can do a great car for $50,000 to $75,000.

1955? Um, what? Nothing about any C6, C5, or even C4 is remotely close to 1955 design. Mechanical or Visual.

Would you not consider the engines in your 4, 5, 6 to be an evolution of the OHV smallblock V8 Chevy designed and created in 1955?

Re: 2005 Chevy Corvette Convertible, The irony of the feat.

I think what espo was trying to say is that the LS2 is similar to the 1955's 265 c.i. small block in that it is a pushrod engine, thus throwing egg in the face of all those "over head cam"/"more technologically advanced engine" folk that would like to convince everyone that a cam-in-block engine is ancient. I do not think he actually believes the motors are similar or have even one part that is interchangeable. I may be wrong. . .

Anyhow, I too love the new vette and like it more and more with everyone that I see. I was skeptical about the fixed headlights at first, but now love them. Great Job GM, now where is my Chevelle. . .
