Re: 11 Worst Cars
what a crap list. if you're going to rate vehicles, rate them according to what they're designed for, don't try to lump all of them into the same (extremely vague) category.

Re: 11 Worst Cars
this is misleading.. ranked "worst" by specific categories, and doesn't take into account what the individual cars are primarily used for

Re: 11 Worst Cars
Let's all believe everything anyone posts for consumption by the public. Good grief, what an unmitigated crock of garbage.
While the Mercury Grand Marquis is rather long in the tooth, it is what it is, an older four door rear wheel drive sedan. Something which certain sergments of the buying public still want. I could understand comparisons to the Pnotiac G8, Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300 as a valid reason for dismissing the Mercury as less than worthy. However, from what I have seen, it is assembled well, and somewhat reliable due to its long term unchanging manufacturing process. As for the Hummer smack, while I am not a big fan of SUV's by a long shot, again, it is what it is. A very capable off-roader. Much the same argument goes for the Wrangler. Quite frankly, the vehicles listed in most cases are purpose driven for different market segments, regardless of which manufacturer (Domestic or Foreign) the quality of the vehicles is much improved over what the public had been offered 10-15- or 20 years ago. It would be much more relevant if the comments were based on comparisons in each vehicle's particular market segement. I will be the first to admit I have certain prejudices against certain types of vehicles. But, having said that, in all fairness, compare apples to apples instead of peaches or plums. |

Re: 11 Worst Cars
Wrangler unlimited? Seriously? I have yet to meet a pissed off 4-dr jeep owner.

"The Hummer's and Jeeps did really good at their designed purpose, but we didnt rate that"
WTF was the criteria for this test? Comparing A Yaris and a Hummer in the same test? Did my grandmother write this article? |

Re: 11 Worst Cars
I was glad to see a couple of toyotas on there, especially the FJ. In a couple of tests, while travelling down washboard roads, its been reported the FJ's clamshell doors vibrated so badly they thought the doors were gonna fall off. 4wheeler/4wheel offroad.

Re: 11 Worst Cars
If all the hummer and Jeep buyers were only those who actually use their vehicles off road regularly then there wouldn't be enough people to sustain those brands.

Re: 11 Worst Cars
So they scored the Jeep Wranger according to its on-road capabilities. So silly. It's an off-road vehicle first, and the buyers know it's an off-road vehicle. So what if most buyers don't take it off-road often? They still want something capable of serious off-roading, otherwise they wouldn't have bought it.
It's like comparing the Suburban's acceleration and handling characteristics to a Porsche Boxster. After all, a Suburban only contains one or two people most of the time, so it should be compared to a two-seater. Ridiculous. |

Re: 11 Worst Cars
This was a list of the 11 lowest scoring vehicles in Consumer Reports' on-road tests. So, off-road ability, reliability, and cost of ownership didn't count, and several of these vehicles excelled in one or more of those areas. Calling them the "Worst Cars" overall is somewhat unfair.

Re: 11 Worst Cars
They weren't compared in the same test. Consumer Reports assigns a score of 0 to 100 on all vehicles it tests. These were the vehicles that scored lowest overall over a period of time. When they print the magazine, they typically test them in groups of four or five similar vehicles (four midsized SUVs, four compact cars, whatever).
