Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

although it does look amazing, i think they should just change the current suburban front end some and then make it. my question is though, why use the 4.5l as a 2500hd? why not use the 4.5L for a 1500hd, and the duramax as a 2500hd? wouldnt that make more sense? i cant imagine it costing that much money to do, even if they put them on special order only.

why does someone always post something such as this? why is it unnecessary? because you dont tow? towers heart diesel and diesel hearts towing. thats just the way it is. and why shouldnt people with families be able to tow with the best setup possible? explain this.

and the h3 too? another one. hummers are purpose built luxury off roaders. just because you dont like it doesnt mean its unecessary. every vehicle is unnecessary to someone and necessary to someone else. get over it.

Anybody know if this will make it to production? My dad is trying to decide if he should wait for this or buy a truck soon...

I think this has already been addressed. The new 4.5 is a lot more compact than the 6600 because they reduced some of the parts needed due to some new technology, and this conviently makes it the same size as one of the small block gassers if I remember correctly. Just look up the 4500's press release.

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

Here is the forum on the tech of the 4500.

Details of GM's new 4.5 L Duramax

Sounds like a winner to me. In another thread, it talks about potential sales numbers, etc. GM to make 94,000 4.5L diesels per yearthread

But at $3.00+/gal for diesel fuel? It's still more expensive than unleaded

Nice, but another vehicle that 90% of buyers probably don't really need, and... may lead to more green based criticism. Plus, I agree with others, the regular Suburban looks better!

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

If they produced it looking just like this concept they would have the market Ford abandoned with the diesel Excursion all to themselves. The Silverado's face looks better on this than it does the Silverado.
