Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

Very nice, but kinda plain jane for SEMA. Would be a nice production vehicle though.

Now I can say it for sure. The Tahoe/Suburban/Avalanche - they're better looking than the Silverado. This is proof positive. Same proportions - it's just uglier.

And the bar-bell bumper. God, who thought that was a good idea?

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

No way. Not a BIG seller, this is what we should be trying to get away from, not get into. The Suburban/Tahoe front end looks way better than the Silverado, that tank is just UGLY. The diesel would need a net 25% improvement in MPG without the HUGE markup and we know that ain't gonna happen.
I hope they shrug this off cause it's a mistake.
What's next, a diesel HHR? Come on SEMA, you can do better than this.

I think they would be better off just putting the engine in the current setup.
My thoughts exactly! GM should just beef up the current Suburban front end to make it HD-ish and go with it! IMO. Leave the truck front end to the truck.

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

Build it.

Two minor details that need to be addressed.

1. That pewter color never makes a truck look as good as it could, why can't they show vehicles in black?

2. They need to lose the roof marker lights, its not a semi truck.

Now that looks tough! Never thought i would like the current Silverado end, but it looks real tight on this suburban! HD mirriors look good also.

Does the Suburban "already" have the Z71 option?!

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

I love the concept of a diesel Suburban, and GM is a fool if they don't offer the Suburban with the new 4.5L diesel. What they should do is offer the 4.5L diesel in both 1500 and 2500 series Suburbans.

Basically this SEMA truck is a modern version of my truck: a '99 Suburban 2500 4x4 with the off-road package (pre-Z71) and the 6.5L Turbo Diesel (the last year GM made a diesel Suburban). I love the truck, but my only complaint is the 2500 chassis is really bouncy when not loaded with 1,500 lbs. of payload, and is total overkill for what I need it for. The 1500 rides much better when empty, and with that engine, would be perfect.

this looks hideous... and the rear fender arcs (for the wider suspension?) look like a tacked on, red neck, JC Whitney overkill.

I'd like to see the reverse... Tahoe front end on the new trucks!

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

Diesels in the Suburban Tahoe and Avalanche should have been done years ago! fuels savings would be substantial over gasoline. GMC and Cadillac should do he same. I'm glad to see someone at GM is at least thinking about it. Diesels would also make these trucks more more marketable in more parts of the world.

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

Now that looks wicked! I've got a new dream truck/SUV for when I win the lottery. It looks like it can go through anything. I love the current front end of the Tahoe/Suburban, but the HD front end actually looks right on that body.

yeah i noticed that two.. maybe they had a few fenders left over.

i really hope that Diesel makes it into production.. but in the 1500 model.. that way more people would get it

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

I've been told by an engineer friend of mine that the DuraMax/Allison combination was just too heavy for the Suburban in 6.6 form. The 4.5, well....

The color I can understand, but people like the roof markers. We get requests all the time to make roof marker accessory kits for the 2500/3500.

The rear fender-flares are a little much, but I like it anyway
