SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel
SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel
![]() ![]() The Chevy Suburban HD Z71 is the culmination of a “what if” exercise that melds the popular Suburban 2500HD with the popular Z71 off-road package – a combination not currently offered by the factory – and partners it with a new, fuel-saving smaller-displacement diesel engine. The concept uses many production parts, including the front-end assembly from Chevy’s HD trucks, along with some unique custom touches – including rear wheel flares that pick up the styling cues of the front end. Power is generated by a new 4.5L diesel engine that gives this off-road-ready Suburban power, poise and efficiency. Vehicle highlights:

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel
Build it just like that and sell a ton of them, I like how the HD front end goes with the Suburban body.
The rear flares hint that it might have Quadrasteer, but there is no info about it in the release. |

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel
The Silvy front end is growing on me actually, this looks good. I hope those bulges are for RWS, but something tells me it just means it has a heavy duty axle back there.

I love it, I love the diesel and the Silverado's front.

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel
I really like it.
But look at the lack of success of the Excursion with the Super Duty front end. It is just a concept and will most likely not happen. I think they would be better off just putting the engine in the current setup. |

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel
I suppose the question for GM is the net increase, hopefully, in profit. How many sales would be made that would not be made of a gas version, and what would be the profit of this version vs. the gas model. Take that against the development/marketing/support costs. It should certainly have better towing numbers.

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel
Diesel Subs would sell. Just build it already. my only questeion is why has it taken so long for a concept truck to have the new 4.5L Diesel when the 6.6L could have been there since the 900's have been around?

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel
Very excellent. The whole thing is great: the engine, the wheels, the front end...

Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel
Am I the only one out here that feels the front third of the vehicle appears too large compared to the rest of it? Also, the edges of the rear fender flares appear more squared off than the front flares, but maybe it's just the photos.
Looks out of proportion to me. |
