NYIAS: 2009 Nissan Maxima gets an early unveil

2009 Nissan Maxima, Revealed!

Looks like despite an embargo officially dropping sometime tonight or tomorrow on the 2009 Nissan Maxima, it looks like the covers have been lifted a bit early. And after the new Maxima teaser shots we showed yesterday that showed us absolutely nothing, we're glad to finally have the official pics thanks to the boys at the site all about Fans of Cars from around the World. They've managed to procure a few shots of the new Maxima and here they are. We'll have a full set of live photos tomorrow at the official New York Auto Show unveil.

Oh that's much better. I'm happy they're moving away from that ugly ugly grille they insist is shaped like a "T."

Cool Re: 2009 Nissan Maxima gets an early unveil

Of the Asian brands Nissan has always been my favorite. Yes, I also like Lexus, although Toyota never interested me, even though at one time I was associated with a Toyota Dealership. I had a 300ZX which I put 100K miles on it, it was 1 of 2 cars that I accumulated that kind of mileage, the other my very first new car a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS396, Both drove beautifully the day I traded them in (and both had brand new tires purchased a week before, do you suppose that's why I sold them?)

One day a million years ago I locked my keys inside my car, and had to go home to get my spare (before OnStar was available) and my secretary loaned me her Maxima, the 15 Mile drive home, was so memorable, after that I purchased the ZX. By the way, the ZX gave me absolutely trouble free service for 109,000 miles, if I wasn't waiting for the CTS V, I might take a look at the Maxima.

Looks more like an Infiniti, especialy the center stack. IMO the poor Max gets worse with every generation.

I'm beginning to think that Nissan isn't sure where Nissan ends and Infiniti begins.

Woah. Talk about hitting every branch of the ugly tree on the way down. That's hideous. Did a former employee pen that thing? Eeesh.

And the interior is sad looking. The centre stack is ugly without any flow.

But I just can't get past that front. It's something that will haunt my dreams for way too long. And to think I'll have to suffer looking at that thing on the road soon. Bad enough we have some ugly Honda products, now Nissan is going to assault our aesthetic senses, too.

Re: 2009 Nissan Maxima gets an early unveil

It looks like 75% Camry and 25% Infinity.

So yes... ugly stick and Toyota stick hit this thing. That front end is horrible.

I'm not crazy about the front end, but the rest of it is pretty good. I think it's a big improvement. I agree that the Infinity like touches on the dash are dumb.

It's much better than the current generation Maxima - now that's disgusting.

Nissan is REALLY wandering around looking for a front end identity. I hope they find something good soon.

Re: 2009 Nissan Maxima gets an early unveil

Looks like the Nissan designers took a major dive in the Infiniti parts bin...and grabbed everything they could get their hands on. The word "mish-mash" comes to mind. It's not offensive, but it surely isn't pretty, either. I don't mind the interior, but the body lines do not flow at all. Looks like Civic tail lights.

I agree with the comments saying that it looks like Infinity. Looks much better than the current one though. I would still take the CTS any day over this.

Re: 2009 Nissan Maxima gets an early unveil

Agreed that it follows more of the G35's lines, and the now generic Nissan/Infinity center stack has made it all the way around Nissan.
Headlights look horrible, that retectangular grill looks odd when compared to the blob and free flowing shapes and curves of the car.
This is not the last we see of this design them or headlights...

Re: NYIAS: 2009 Nissan Maxima gets an early unveil

I like the back and side profile, but the front is ugly.

But the real question is the specs. The current Maxima is on the small end for a large car and not particularly remarkable for power, economy, price, or crash safety. I don't even think the manual transmission is offered any more.

Whoever thought stealing the Yaris's tail-lights was a good idea needs to be shot.
