Chevy has the Avalanche and the new Camaro.

Pontiac-Buick-GMC has the G8 ST and Solstice.

I think they should have more unique vehicles.

Re: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck Uncovered!

This is a risky move...going with a new nameplate and all.

The SSR should have been the El Camino. People would know what it was then.

Now with this....I don't know if the marketing is correct.

I hope to god that they don't get this thing called the el camino, it would even be hard for chevy to touch this nameplate again, it is off limits to anybody but chevy.

Re: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck Uncovered!

Let's just call it a G8 VE Ute and be done..............G8 VE Ute GXP just kind of works for me

Re: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck Uncovered!

The people whining over this being a Pontiac better get over it and snap this thing up.
Otherwise they can kiss Camino-style vehicles goodbye. Forever.

No doubt there will still be car-trucks in the future, but they'll look like pickup trucks.

I like G8 GT/GXP Ute myself.

Re: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck Uncovered!

Yeah, it is disappointing that they didn't use the "Ute" tag for the US market. Quirky name for a quirky vehicle.

Also this has to be a Pontiac so they can bandwagon on the same G8 advertising campaign. Spending millions of dollars to advertise a very low production vehicle as a GMC or Chevy model would be retarded.

GM seems to be hesitant about wanting to create clear relationships between foreign nameplates and domestic

Saturn - Opel, Pontiac - Holden, Chevrolet - GMDaewoo

Giving Chevrolet a Holden has yet to materialize ( RWD Impala/Caprice was supposed to be a Holden ). We'll see if these relationship lines get blurred

Well well what do you know? You guys got what you wanted! It'll be interesting to see how this thing pans out sales wise. I'm not expecting it to do all that well. There's the possibility some who want the utility of a light truck but with better gas mileage will go for it but I'm just not seeing how this makes business sense.

A sad sad car.

The G8 is really the only thing keeping pontiac going, but working against it is this monstrosity (which totally kills the G8's character) and the stupid "pontiac is car" slogan.

Please enlighten us on what's so sad about it.

I don't see anything sad about combining ultra high performance and useful utility in a single fuel efficent (compared to trucks) package. I would only only wish for V6 and AWD variants.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck

I wonder what the public said originally when the El Camino first was introduced... I can imagine that the nay-sayers were of the same vernacular stating how the EC would be a failure and no one will buy it and all that sort of thing...

I sincerely hope that the Ute does well in our American Market... and, you cannot knock GM for at least trying... if Ford, Dodge or even Toyota would have come out with it first I can see the Replies slamming GM for not starting the trend first and as a result is losing out on the 'profits'... Just look at the Avalanche... Honda has got in the game... Toyota is playing with a similar concept... what's wrong with trying something "NEW"... you will never know whether there is a market unless you try...

I hope that I do not get bashed for this... but, I was just thinking this and thought that I would share with you all...

GO GM!!!!

awesome! i hope they sell enough of these to keep em going for a while. G8 ST is cool but---NO EL CAMINO! its good on the original, but not here.

LES CAMINO or EL CAMINO, i wouldnt my car to have anything associated with different cultures. what about Pontiac Pheonix---its sorta like a FireBird?

Sure you can. I just voted but gave a made up US address and Phone. I just Googled the zip code for Melbourne Florida and then Googled for the number for the Melbourne Police number and changed the last few digits. it's not like you are going to win a car, it's just so you can suggest a name...

My name was 'Pontiac G8 Lightfoot'.

Wasn't Pontiac an Indian Chief?

It has an old Americana Native American style sound to it and is appropriate in that it is a very light footprint on the earth compared to BOF Trucks.

Great suggestion

I was going to suggest "YOOT" because we know our US friends would probably have some crazy pronunciation for the letter "U" in UTE!!!

Look what they pronounce for "Z".

I can just imagine what American Indians would say. That is, after they file a federal civil rights lawsuit to force GM to stop using the name. Evil white man has destroyed our planet, etc., etc. He is insulting us by using the sacred names of our ancestors.
