Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck
G'day all, i'm new here so I am posting my first thread on my ideal name for this un-named Pontiac G8 ST/ute/truck/pickup or what ever it can be called. I was unable to post my thoughts of a name on the Pontiac website to win it because I am not a US resident (I would love to win it though). Can any US resident forum member do me a favour and forward this to the Pontiac website? It would be great if some could do this for me.
As I am a true AMC nut, having owned many over the past 15 years and currently own a 1978 Holden ute, 55 Hudson Hornet and a 68 Rambler Rebel. I also know about a the 1970 AMC Hornet based ute called the COWBOY. This vehicle still exsist to this day wearing a 75 Hornet front clip and AMC 360 powerplant. COWBOY! yeh ha! ride them boys! Well I think this is very much an appropiate name for this car based ute. I know of no other manufacturer using this name(Cowboy) but would Chrysler have the any rights to hold this name(Cowboy) because they took out AMC back in 1988? 2009 PONTIAC COWBOY GT 2009 PONTIAC COWBOY ST 2009 PONTIAC COWBOY SS 2009 PONTIAC G8 COWBOY 2009 PONTIAC G8 COWBOY GT 2009 PONTIAC G8 COWBOY SS 2009 PONTIAC G8 COWBOY ST Steve Fripp Brisbane Australia. |

These kind of vehicles aren't my thing, but I have to admit the vehicle looks extremely well executed. The vehicle will serve a nice little niche too.

A wagon would have been a better idea

A full G8 lineup, including sedan, wagon, coupe, ute, and maybe convertible would be awesome -- giving the consumer a choice. But choices cost $$. I read somewhere (maybe on GMI) that the semi-official reason the NA wagon was axed was due to the cost of certifying for US safety standards vs estimated sales.

Is there going to be like an extended cab version? I'd like a couple extra seats for occasional use

The Banshee name is sacred! It should never be used for such! If it can't be used for some Firebird- type vehicle, leave it alone!

I prefer to call it what the australians call it, an Ute because it can be a versatile muscle car because it was designed to go fast, as well as be a light duty truck that can haul light loads.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck
New edition of auto extremist just came out (www.autoextremist.com). Boy are they unkind to this thing. The more I think about it myself, I have to wonder if folks on fan forums and within GM are just getting a little too caught up in groupthink with regard to the idea of a Pontiac "sport truck". Outside of this board, I've never heard anyone have one positive thing to say about an El Camino. If this thing comes out and it's immediately ridiculed by the mainstream media and general public, then might as well say bye bye to the G8 sedan too. If I buy a G8, I don't want to be caught dead next to this thing, which people will associate with a G8 because of the identical front-end.

Just be thankful you are getting a powerful stylish Truck/Ute to begin with, if there is any taste left in the world it will sell like hotcakes. I agree with a previous post you should get the whole range Sedan, Wagon, Ute(Truck) & Coupe(if they make it). PS: I agree it should be called a Ute but there are plenty of cars with cr@p names out there - they still sell em.
