Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck

Am I the only one that thinks G8tor is kind of cool. I know its a bit cheesy but hey its better than G8. Anyway, I suggested Phoenix. I want a flaming chicken on the hood of some Pontiac damn it.

Well I think it looks great, love the Japolink comercial, with the 2001 Space Odyssey music. I think it will sell and would like one my self, but a new car is 10 yrs off. Im still going for a Volt. Would be nice if they could build them here.

First of all the El Camino name makes not sense whatsoever for a Pontiac. El Camino = Chevy, end of story. Anyone telling you otherwise obviously doesn't get it. Second of all this UTE makes no sense as a Pontiac. I'm not sure what GM is thinking but it is quite obvious to me that they have forgotten alot of their heritage.

It will flop.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck

After some thought I don't think this car should have a name. It should simply wear Pontiac G8 badges outside like it's sedan sibling.

GM can differentiate the variants by bodystyle in print and marketing by calling them the Pontiac G8 sedan and Pontiac G8 coupe-utility.

The contest idea is a clever one to create buzz and draw attention to this car though. And drawing attention is something Pontiac really needs. Something the lame G6, terrible G5, forgettable Torrent and other cars it sells don't do.

Love it or hate it, people are caring about this car whether they mean to or not.

Brilliant.

Bad analogy, the F-150 doesn't generate any excitement here. They are like a big 4x4 Camry. It sells because people convince themselves that despite it's huge drawbacks they need the capability of it.

The buzz and passion behind the Ute in Australia is similar to the Mustang or Camaro here. These cars epitomize being fun, carefree and unique.

As you can see in this thread, apparently most Americans don't want to be unique nor do they want to have a good time behind the wheel.

Glad that the question of if they bring it or not is over. Now the waiting game of whether or not they bring over a Maloo inspired GXP version is on the table.. LOL
(the G8 GXP sedan really should have gotten HSV fenders..... Hopefully if they do a GXP ST it will.....)

You misunderstood the analogy. I simply don't get the F-150. I don't get how it sells so much for what it is. I don't understand how people can look at it and say "that's my next everyday vehicle." Because ultimately I would place bets that less than half of those trucks sold are used for anything other than a city commuter.

I guess that is somewhat how some of you view the ute. You don't get it.

That last line is a funny one, and true for a large part of this country. We get it that's all that matters.

Because Americans love the size, capability and percieved security of it. It doesn't sell on anything else.

People convince themselves that despite the enormous appetite for fuel and the driving dynamics of a 1970s land barge that they actually need a vehicle like that "just in case" they have to haul something large, or it snows, or if they get in accident.

They make up over half the vehicles on our roads now and only a faction of them are actually used for anything other than commuting.

The F-150 sells because it is BIG, not because it is a truck. Certian people like to be high off the road and in something that is the size of a mack truck (in their mind).

My truck buying friends think that way at least.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck

while I do want a Ute, I am somewhat tore between a Pick-up and a Ute. How well would a Ute due getting to Camp at the dunes, with a quad in the bed? Here's a pic from the last time me and some friends met up at the Pismo dunes for a week....

I miss off-roading and doing things like above that I have been temped to get another 4wd Pick-up... but just wonder if a Ute and a quad would be better than a pick-up alone? (I usually rent a quad when I go to the dunes, and did most of my weekend off-roading in my truck)

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck

Just to get to the point:

1) I WILL be buying the Ute when it comes out. At first I was going to buy the new Camaro, but since I already have 2, I really don't have the need for a third one.

2) I have no way to haul things around, yet I don't want a truck at all. However, if I can hall @$$, tow things, and get great gas milage, then why not.

3)Sooo, as long as I can get a big v8 with a M6 and in metallic orange, then I'm perfectly happy.

Oh, I voted for VLX ST. Not very interesting, but at 2 am with alcohol in you, it seems like a great idea. (If you don't know what VLX means, look it up in your Latin books )
