Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

My hunch was kinda correct, did some more research and this is what I found:

Genesis Coupe's chassis is lighter than the G37's, and its bending rigidity is about 24% greater than the E46 M3.

Both models will feature dual free-flowing cat-backs.

Weight distribution is a little suspect at 55/45 F/R.

GENESIS COUPE SE (highest trim) (Preliminary packaging subject to change)

Unique SE equipment:
* 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or 3.8-liter DOHC V6
* HID headlights
* Aluminum pedals
* Manual A/C
* 19-inch alloy wheels
* High performance Bridgestone Potenza RE050A summer tires
* Brembo braking system with monobloc four-piston calipers
* SE track-tuned suspension / front strut brace
* Limited-slip differential
* Black leather bolsters / red cloth insert seats
* Rear spoiler
* Aero wiper blades

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

I just came back from the show. I took some vid footages on this and othes, so, when I find the driver of my TV capture card(I had to reformat my hard drive about a week ago, and I haven't re-set it up yet), and once my video camera battery gets recharged(all used up), I will put them up here after I Youtube them.

I asked Hyundai people there, and they told me that it isn't the replacement for the Tiburon. They will re-design the Tiburon and bring it back, in ADDITION to this Genesis coupe. They told me that the Tiburon is an important model for them, so they are not going to drop it, they will only add this Genesis coupe and sell alongside the newly revised Tiburon.

As for the power, they are like saying it is roughly about 220HP for the turbo 4, and 310HP for the V6.

I am with most of you. The coupe is overdone both inside and out, and I don't like it very much.(NEVER a fan of Hyundai nor Kia to begin with). They should have done a better job.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Gah this production vehicle is a let down from the concept which had a lot going for it. Call me disappointed on this one, Hyundai just couldnt leave a good design alone.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

If this was the next G6 from Pontiac people would be high fiveing each other. Besides the carbon fiber hood that we all knew wasn't going to make it, it's so close to the concept that the concept was probably a preproduction vehicle. The next G6 needs to use this car as a blueprint and have the turbo ecotec for the midlevel with the 304hp V6 as top trim.

Pretty cool unveiling at New York.

I dont know about you, but it's a perfect alternative to the Camaro/Charger/Mustang. Not everyone is crazy for V8 power, and for YEARS you get hosed over badly on the Camaro or Mustang if you wanted a decent performing car, but couldn't afford the jump up to any of the V8 models. The engines on past base Camaros and Mustangs were amneic, unresponsive, and weren't great on gas, and at the same time, they are slow and one of the last cars you would want to take to the track. If anything, the driving characteristics of the base models were a punishment compared to the V8s. I think its sad that it took CAFE standards to get GM to offer some non-V8 sport coupe/roadster that didn't feel like complete **** to drive.

Huh?? A Tiburon GT limited starts at just over 23k. If the pricing stays similar than there absolutely is chance for large pricing overlap.

In case you folks didn't see it- check out these photos from the press introduction of the Genesis at the show. Hyundai no doubt had the most "exciting" introduction of the event.

The coupe should get the same power train options. The base model would stop all over the Eclipse, the mid level model would be neck and neck with the 350Z, and the top end model would kill both.

Given Hyundai's reputation of a lower price and tons of standard option, the imports would take the biggest hit. The consumer that is looking at the Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang more and likely not gonna cross shop with the Genesis. I have never purchased an import before but if I had to chose between this and a G6 Coupe, I'd pick this. The Altima coupe is really gonna take a huge hit from Genesis coupe.
Yes, I've tried to figure out, why no V8 option for the Coupe? I think it's more of a PR move than any substantial effort to address fuel efficiency concerns, as the sedan will sell in much larger numbers than the coupe, and fuel prices will be much more of a concern to a family on a budget, than a single educated professional.

Or maybe fears of competition with the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger, all of which have history with American sports car fans, and would likely undercut the price of a V8 Genesis Coupe.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Hyundai is saying there is no room in the coupe to fit the V8 engine into, and they are saying that's the reason they cancelled the V8 for the Genesis coupe.

As for the competion, I have doubts that this thing will sell. It's highly derivative as are with all the Hyundai's, and I doubt anyone would cross-shop a Hyundai, or any Korean make, against the better known Japanese brands, or American. Especially, the American muscle car buyers. They will just laugh at it, and buy the good 'ol American like they have for so long. They won't waste their money, on something new that hasn't been proven and that was from the company which was once known as, highly breakable, un-reliable, cheap alternative of an appliance car that don't last.

Even the Japanese performance car buyers won't really care much about this new Hyundai. I think the most possible buyers for the coupe will be, young Korean Americans, who has a pride in themselves buying something that is from his/her native land and does not care about the image the company has.

I don't think it will appeal to AMERICAN buyers. Hyundai and Kia DID come a long way, but I feel they are not yet there. Especially the fact that Hyundai or Kia DON'T have any fans of any of their products unlike the Japanese brands do, for they don't have any exciting models to drool over.

Rumor has it that, Hyundai has sent a coupe to the set of the future Fast and Furious movie, but I don't think it will fare well, against so many high performance coupes they will have, and the fact, that Hyundai has already been chewed down on one of the previous movie, they will be lucky if they don't get cut from the final movie plot.

In terms of performance, I think the base couple will probably be a decent performer, but just not enough to dethrown Detroit's finest, nor the Japanese. If they bring out the car right now, that may change, but since they are still working on it for the 2010 model year, that does not mean the other companies are sleeping.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

I was initially very excited about this car and the Hyundai Genesis sedan.

But this initial review of the Korean spec base Genesis sedan is pretty discouraging:
http://news.windingroad.com/videos/v...genesis-sedan/
(Most of the review is a video in Korean with English subtitles.)

Basically the reviewer thinks the car is spacious, but it's extremely dull to drive, so unexciting that he can't even tell it's RWD. Now maybe the upper trim levels or US model will get a much sportier suspension tune. But I've seriously lowered my expectations.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

I have low expectations as well, but you have think this way as well. The taste of Koreans and Americans are differ in cars. Even if it is the same car, the car that's for sale in Korea is vastly different than the ones intended for North America. For the Hyundai, North American intended models have stronger sheetmetals, and tuned more towards better ride, or so as I heard, so.....
