If no one's going to buy it there's no point building it. I think this targa is a fine compromise for a low-volume vehicle... if you don't like it without the top lock it in place and throw away the key... tada! Solid-roofed coupe!
I'm sure you know better than I do, but why would a coupe cost $5000 more?

Personally, I would prefer a coupe. That said, I think this looks good. It would look better in a different color as well. Why does it have to be silver? Try black. Try red.

That Firebird Trans Am and Fiero in that commercial are two very goodlooking Pontiacs!

Well I'm just guessing... but if they say the coupe would cost more to develop than the targa, I don't imagine they're talking about $100 bucks. Look at the list of things they'd have to change (windshield header, airbags, etc) to make it a real coupe over a targa.

HOLY *****!!!!!!!!!!! wow cant believe you said that. I think this is a sweet car too, but it seems to have the same interior layout as the convertible which means i probably wont be able to fit in it.

Thumbs up Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

Wow, this is another great statement car for Pontiac that should help push Solstice sales. A V-6 option would be a vicious tire roaster, hah hah hah (evil grin).

Now add this with an Alpha G6 and the upcoming Camaro, and GM can finally say: "RWD enthusiasts, we have all that you want right here. Welcome home to American performance and value."

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

I may not get a Camaro after all.

I am probably looking at my next car. Thank You GM, for two excellent choices.

I like the targa. I wouldn't even be interested if it was a solid roof coupe.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

I'd like to see 6'4" Bob Lutz stuffed in one. At 6'2", I couldn't see the speedometer through the steering wheel of the convertible, but the windshield frame was right at eye level. First time I've ever wished I were a lot shorter.

Thank you... seriously tho idk who they designed the Kappas for you got an inch on me but that is my dilemma when it comes to these cars. Are we really that much taller than the majority of the population?

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

They have the design perfect now.... If only they would have thrown in kill-all sports engine.... What is wrong with the 2.8l V6 Turbo from the Saab 9-3?? Throw on another twin-scroll to that engine and it would truly make a kick-ass roadster.

I love the Targa top... simplistic and less to worry about breaking than a moon-roof or auto-top-from-hell.

IMO this porsche is uuuuuuuuugly. Looks like a glorified VW in the red pic. I like the Solstice Targa's look...Great job GM! Go Pontiac!!!!!!!!!!

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

People keep complaining about the lack of a V6 in the Solstice.

It just doesn't fit.

The LSx conversions for these cars require them to cut small pieces of the front frame to shoehorn them in; and the only reason the LSx fits is because of its smaller size due to it's pushrod design. When you begin talking about the 3.6, there's no way to get it in there without seriously modifying the structure, and theres no way GM is going to intentionally compromise the chassis integrity just to get a V6 or V8 in there.

Besides, there's nothing that the 3.6 can do that the turbo Ecotec can't. It makes 304 in the CTS, and I'm positive that is well within the limits of the turbo 4. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
