Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

I like the coupe a lot, I just think they should of updated it in the process. The Solstice was really GM's first vehicle of their turn around process. You would of thought they would of did something to it to keep it fresh. This reminds me of the PT Cruiser when they added the convertible, but didn't do anything to the design at all. I think they should offer the coupe with the option of having a removeable top and having a fixed roof standard, maybe with a sun roof. This way you can appease a lot of people. Overall its a good idea that should of happened a couple years ago. Just wondering if Saturn will get the same treatment..

So its cheaper to have two optional removable roof setups and a pop up glass hatch than one solid roof?...all of which had to be leaked proofed and safety tested. OKaaaaaay!

I guess the coupe version will be the one most used for racing next year. Wonder if the new roofline provides improved aerodynamics?

So does that make Porsche right?
Just because it's Porsche it doesnt make it the holy graile.... Having a Targa Solstice is HOT.
They are being different, not following.

I would rather see the Sky get a coupe version. Of the two, the saturn is the better looking car.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

I really can't believe the moaning and groaning some people are doing regarding this car. Who could have imagined Pontiac building anything like this 5 years ago? This car is hot, and I personally love the targa roof. It gives the owner the capability to go topless without the compromise of a fabric roof. It also takes out the complicated mechanism of a retractable hardtop which is pointless in a car this size. As a former Miata owner I hate the retractable hardtop on the new Mazda.

ONE SHINING MOMENT IN HISTORY COMING RIGHT UP:
I, PontiacBixler, do solemnly state that if Pontiac is not EVER going to bring the Firebird back..... I am extremely happy with this model.

.....Now I hope that I can fit in it and that it is priced below the current convertible Solstice.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

From the AutomobileMag article:

Unfortunately, one item that can't be stashed back there is the targa top.
To make amends, Pontiac will offer an optional Lotus Elise-style canvas top
that can be collapsed and stored onboard.

Looks like you have to leave the "hard" roof at home......

No place to put the top in the car when it's off? Bad. Give me a fixed roof with a sliding sunroof......

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

I do like it and prefer the notion of a targa as it retains the open air ability of the convertible. I think that was actually their thinking, though. They figured they'd lose out if it were strictly a hard top as customers would want to open air drive this thing and that left them with but one solution.

I'm not happy that the top can't be stowed. It's going to be a major disappointment for people, though the small cloth top is a good idea, but should be standard.

I'm trying to figure out why the trunk isn't bigger. When they redo the Solstice/Sky they have to get the packaging much better.

As to the interior comments, I think a mild refresh was in order. All they had to do was up the quality of the parts and add some flash. Nothing too expensive, but a bit of eye candy would do wonders for that interior which as a monotone boringness about it.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

This is seriously not cool. Between that, the Camaro, the G8 (ute especially) and all these other cool GM cars coming out all at once, how can I ever convince my wife that I need one ?!
