Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

I was really exited about the solstice coupe but i just don't like a lazy there were about it. The trunk is tiny and it looks like there is a ton of waisted space in the back. Where do you put the targa top? What is the point if this is less practical than the convertible.

That is what I expected I hope there is a sky version as I would buy that in a month.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

We have pics! Thanks!

It is nice, but the interior is going to be an issue with all reviewers (especially those out to get GM). Why can't GM make some minor updates to keep it fresh? I know this car is great value as it is, but by 2009 others will have better interiors...I really hope they updated the materials a bit like they did ont he Vette, but the pic doesn't confirm this.

Nice wheels, interesting hatch design choice. Nice looking...Good value...But only as a second car.

It's incredibly hot, a bit more sinister than the overly friendly convertible, and a great profile.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

Wow, looks great. I love the lines of the rear window! I think it looks nice with a Elise-esque soft top. Will they be doing this for the Sky also? I think the Solstice looks a bit better, but I would rathar have the Sky! The Sky is like the underdog of GM, I see Solstices all the time, but RARELY a Sky! But even if they did do the coupe, I think I would rather just get the vert(which is odd, because as a rule I hate convertables!).

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

Honestly, I'm fairly disappointed. While it looks nice from some angles, there's still a kind of awkwardness about it. Also, I can see many a driver knocking their noggins as close as the seats sit to that roofline -- ouch!

Not at all a bad vehicle, but it really could've been a standout.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

This is a case of pure beauty of form over function. Frankly, I don't care in this case that GM couldn't make a retractable hardtop work or that there isn't storage space. This thing is jaw-droppingly stunning. I have a Sky now that I only plan to have for a couple of years as a one-time chance to have such a vehicle - never planning on another one. This car could change that for me. That it is coming from GM and Pontiac (cheesy Grand Ams still in recent memory), is amazing. I love it!

Lotus Elise has it reversed: soft top standard, hard top optional.

Yes, nobody has made a mention about the SKY! We know GM wants to share design costs...The SKY is its brother. Is anything coming out on this end? I wonder how good it would look.

Maybe someone with good Photoshopping skills can whip together a SKY hardtop inspired by the design direction of this car.

It depends on one's preference.

I think a true fixed, non-convertible hardtop would have been the best looking. A fixed top would have made the car a more serious, less compromised sporty car, as well.

And the more powerful, sportier Lotus Exige has a non-removable fixed hardtop...

Way to go Pontiac, this is something a lot of people have been wanting. Hopefully it'll inject some new life into Solstice sales and help bring some more people into Pontiac showrooms.

I would think the Sky would get the treatment as well. It only makes sense, but who knows what GM has planned and why. Saturn hasn't had as much trouble moving their roadster off dealer lots as Pontiac has had so adding a Sky hardtop would seem like a sure-fire hit.
