Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP!

Ya'll are friggin' killin' me with all this whining about the 28 hp difference in rated power vs. the LS3 'Vette. Put a cold air kit on it and a tune, and you'll be over the 430 hp anyhow... BFD.

I hope that there will be an AFM version of the LS3 available soon... it'd be great in the G8 GXP and mebbe even the 'Vette (assuming that the AFM valvetrain can hold up under high RPM abuse).

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP!

This is ONE SWEET RIDE! If they can keep the starting price under $35k they should easily sell out. The Hot Wheels gold color rocks - didn't think I'd like it on a real car until seeing it on the G8.

Just read that the Charger may be available with a no MPG penalty AWD setup for 2009. That would be perfect for a G8 up here in the snow belt.

Re: Pontiac G8 GXP

your linked images just got owned by netcarshow.com

I like it overall. Not fond of the color, and I could have gone for a taller spoiler than the stock one. Not a huge wing, but a taller lip spoiler like that could have looked great. Maybe a more pronounced splitter on the front too would have been nice, like on the Monaro Coupe. But overall, looks good. It depends on pricing though, 40 horse bump over the GT and minimal exterior changes other than shabby looking chrome wheels shouldnt be a big premium.

Re: Pontiac G8 GXP

It looks okay... I prefer a different set of 'shoes' on the GXP but... it'll do... it'll do... just make sure that when MotorTrend does another comparo with the G8 and the SRT-8 Charger that this car blows away the Charger....

what are you talking about? every where else but here this car DOES compete with BMW. in fact the HSV has BMW directly in it's sights. what, you put a Pontiac emblem on the nose and all of a sudden it's not good enough to compete with the Bavarian?

Maybe in a few years Pontiac will build such a car. Or maybe they'll put the DI V6 and a 6-speed in the G8. Either way, with the price of gas threatening to hit $4 a gallon, I don't know if I can rationalize a V8 anymore.

However if I could, the G8 would be my first choice!
i love how everyone forgets how the "big gas guzzling" GM v8s get as good and sometimes BETTER gas mileage than just about EVERY v6 out there...

I wouldn't! Shoot, for that price you could get a G8 GT or a nice equipped CTS leftover 08 in a few months! Why waste money on a Pontiac when you can get a similar equipped Cadillac with superior style/refinement/design?

2) To align the torque curve of the LS3 with the additional 800+ Lbs. of the G8 over a Vette.

3) To decontent the Pontiac over a Corvette (same old GM).

4) This is the rating on 87 octane regular vs. the 93 octane optimized Chevy.
You said it - 1, 2, and 4 seem most likely. We all hope that number 3 really is in the past, althought the CTS-V is quite downtured from the Corvette engine.

It is obvious that either you guys don't have built-in navigation system, or you do not use the one you have. I formerly thought they were an unnecessary expense, but since installing one, have found it saves time and frustration. A tiny little portable screen would be very annoying. My only complaints about my unit are small size of the 7" screen, and the lack of car pool lane data. I hope the auto makers upgrade to larger screeens - 10" or more would be nice. I am surprised that the Ford built-in PC in the new F150 does not have at least a 10" or 12" screen.

I would rather have the smaller car because it's cheaper to own and operate. It's also more maneuverable in city traffic. Surely, that's something a Cobalt lover can appreciate!

As for a leftover CTS, I'm too picky about options to take the leftovers. A nice CTS stickers for $40K, and that's out of my range.

Yeah, if you're driving on the highway, at steady speeds, with an automatic transmission doing your shifting to help you stay oh so economical.

But anything I buy will have a manual transmission, be driven in the city, and be driven HARD!!! A G8 GT auto has a city rating of 15 MPG. And with my lead foot, it might not even get that. Thus the need for something a bit more economical.
