Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 LS3 Pontiac G8 GXP!

Earlier in this thread a guy named (Beau) mentioned about other offerings at the NYIAS Pontiac will show off. I think he is right, to show the GXP thats cool and the pickup version which I think is ok but what I also want to see from Pontiac is MCE G6 before that car becomes RWD in two years or so and a 2009 G8 upgraded 3.6 with DI and a 6 speed auto and perhaps a stick as well.

I also don't want to beat a dead horse here but why doesnt this car have a Navigation screen. I will say it here, I was at a party yesterday and this guy was talking about Navigation screens in cars and how he loves using it and that every car should have it as an option. It is absolute travesty that you can't get it in the G8, the G6, the Malibu and Aura. Its in every GM SUV but why not the cars. The G8 is a car that is competing against premium cars and you cant get a Navigation screen, what a freaken joke !!!! It looks like the beancounters are still doing their dirtywork !!!!!! Get this, you can get it in a Torrent and Grand Prix that is going away but you can't get it in a G8. Does GM know how ludicrous and how bad this looks. People dont be fooled when GM says only a small % of the population wants Nav screens in their cars. I guess it could be worse if Cadillac didnt offer it. For 2009, GM needs to spend the money and reconfigure the Epsilons to accept Navigation and also the G8. They also need to make the 6 speed auto available to more models, including the 4 cylinder Epsilons and even the upscale Cobalt. GM listen to this, for 2009 we need to see :

* Navigation available in all cars except the Aveo
* 6 speed automatics in almost all cars including the upscale version of the Cobalt, if not, all other cars including the Impala.
* Some models need to have interior refreshes, mostly center stacks on dashboards. For example, Pontiac G6.
* Make the 3.6 DI, 6 speed auto available to the highest version Epsilons, G8 and Buick Lucerne and DTS (this will happen I think).
* Refresh the STS interior by giving it the Chinese SLS dash or something similar.
* Show us the new Lacrosse in concept form.
* We will see a MCE XLR Cadillac Roadster but lets also see a SRX with a revised rear and nose.

COME ON GM !!!!!!!!

The G6 isn't slated to get any significant updates until 2012. You'll see the new LaCrosse, as well as new versions of the Malibu and Aura, on Epsillon II before the G6 is addressed. An Alpha based replacement for the G6 is up in the air (at best) or already cancelled. At least GM will have some thing to sell Avis, Enterprise, et al.

Get a clue. Go buy a $200 Garmin. Then you can use it in every vehicle you own. Talk about spoiled whiners!

He'd rather blow $3,000 on a built in that ages the car rapidly as it becomes outdated.

Nav is a bandwagon option, but it is one GM should offer despite it's questionable merits.

All RWD platforms are heavy. It's mostly because cars keep getting bigger and safety regulations continue to become more stringent.

Ford is going bigtime into direct injection turbo I-4 and V-6 engines to improve fuel economy. GM has also apparently tuned the DI version of the 3.6L V6 for fuel economy in the Lambdas vs. performance in the CTS/STS.
Zeta is a "large" car platform. Like W-Body or K/G-Body it is BIG and thus it is heavy. Sigma is only "light" because it uses a crap load of aluminum.

3. TTAC discusses in their podcast today that the G8 had been intended to have production moved to NA (probably Canada along with other Zeta products). This apparently has changed. Either GM figures they'd never get the volume to justify the switch to NA production (as TTAC presumes), CAFE really did gut GM's product plans for Zeta in NA or a combination thereof. Basically as it stands, the G8 provides additional volume for the plant in AU as that market depends on exports to justify the investment in the VE/WM platforms to start with.
It doesn't matter what brand sells it. If the package is right, trust, they will come!

Which would be an engineering solution to the weight issue. No doubt, you can do lighter with the same volume (size) cheaper in a front wheel drive platform which is why the Zeta Impala likely has bit the dust.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP!

Guys I am not being a whiner, the navigation issue is all about perception and GM needs to improve people's perception of their cars.

Question. Can you take the after market Nav systems and have them installed in the dash like where the radio sits ? For example, the G8 has the screen already, can you integrate the after market nav into that or into the radio bay of an Aura or Malibu or any other car ?

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP!

I'm curious to see the price on this. I would personally just buy a G8 GT. What's weird is Pontiac is done building 2008 G8s already. They are switching over to 2009 G8s with like 4 or 5 new color options.

Probably not because the HVAC is integrated into the unit and uses the display.

Same here. I'd love a car closer to the G6 in size w/RWD and a DI V6 and 6-speed manual. I'd even pay $30-$32k for it, if it's done right.

Maybe in a few years Pontiac will build such a car. Or maybe they'll put the DI V6 and a 6-speed in the G8. Either way, with the price of gas threatening to hit $4 a gallon, I don't know if I can rationalize a V8 anymore.

However if I could, the G8 would be my first choice!

Pontiac G8 GXP

Pontiac announced the flagship of its GXP performance series, the Pontiac G8 GXP high-performance sedan, at the New York Auto Show. This 2009 model will join the Solstice, G6 and Torrent GXP models in Pontiac dealerships in late 2008. The Pontiac G8 GXP takes the G8's responsive driving experience, refined passenger environment and aggressive good looks to a new level. It also delivers an enjoyable driving experience, thanks to a 6.2L V-8 that produces in excess of 400 horsepower.
