Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 LS3 Pontiac G8 GXP!

0-60 in 4.3 seconds would be only 0.5 slower than a BMW M5 at 1/2 the price.

Re: NYIAS 08: 2009 LS3 Pontiac G8 GXP!

I really like the G8, now with the GXP edition I like it twice as much. If I needed a car for kids, I'd pick this one no questions asked. The GXP does look a little understated for my taste, but its nothing I couldn't fix in the driveway. This is clearly the best car Pontiac has had since 2002.

Nice.

Now just give me an AWD diesel hybrid 6-speed manual G8 wagon.

It lifts your heart to see an Australian product do well in the States. From what I gather on forums, the response to the g8 has been enthusiastic, even in the United Arab Emirates and UK.
So for a long time i kept thinking "Just wait till they get the up-spec HSV derived GXP!. It should blow them away."

the HSV GTS comes with
-Magnetic Ride Control Suspension (ala 599 GTB ferrari, corvette, audi TT)
-its own set of LED tail lights (to differentiate it from the commodore) situated lower which looks slightly sportier
-its own set of side vents (again to differentiate it from the commodore) behind the front guards to advertise its sports-spec credentials; albeit non-functioning.
-20” shadow wheels
-larger spoiler; I know this has ricer connotations in the US (it’s derived from Australian V8 touring car culture) so I can understand the product change for the market taste.
But I can't understand why the Pontiac deleted these other options.
It looks tame to me.
In Australia it was common and too easy for entry-commodore owners to put HSV body work on their rides and HSV developed the rep of being simply a rebadged commodore – that was until the product differentiation HSV decided to invest in with the VE series.
Also, HSV owners felt ripped off even after paying the extra premium.

I feel the same thing could happen stateside.
The GXP looks no different to a g8

You can always import a HSV GTS. The "Grey market" is something that has seen news in the last week or so. Check this out:http://www.motivemag.com/pub/feature...s_Wanted.shtml

You have procreated?

I don't have any issue with this car. Sure it's still a bland, dated design with some Pontiac "flair" stuck on it, but you can't have it all.

how can anyone be dissapointed?
I'm only really slightly disappointed by the 402 HP "pre"-rating. LS3 should be kicking out 425 horses minimum, and maybe it is and GM is just sandbagging. I'll reserve judgement until the SAE numbers come out for it. Of course the SRT-8 crowd might be disappointed after seeing the GXP's taillights.

How can you really say the design is dated when it has only been on the market for maybe 2 or 3 years now? Even so, Toyonda do very well selling their blandmobiles.

I don't mind at all the conservative styling. I do wish they would have brought over the magnetic suspension and the LED lights. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that a 2 door version will be coming out shortly after all this. I really don't want a 4 door family hauler.

There is that Commodore 60 Coupe Concept that Holden showed off in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. That screams potential GTO replacement. I just hope this time they are smart enough not to call it the GTO.

Yeah... $35k sounds about right to me too.

My guess is they will price it over $40k in Canada though

im sorry wha?

it sounds about right?

With a conversion at current rates that means you are paying AUD $37K
and a Standard ss is AUD$45-50k..... why are we paying more when it is built here?

ARe we subsidising you?

I cant believe that you guys expect to have this so cheap...
The brits are impressed that a very similar product comes in at 30ish thousand POUNDS (ill remind you, the pound is STILL stronger than the dollar) Thats about 75AU and 70US

how is it at all economically possible that GM can afford to sell the GXP for that, let alone the GT at 30grand....

can someone with a mind for economics explain....

and dont say a larger market blah blah brings down the price... i know that, and if thats the cause.... why do we get ripped off?

Not cool man

Meh, looks bland. I'm not impressed. We need the HSV version, with a pontiac badge. And those wheels are awful.
