NAIAS: Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept Coming

Short Take: Looks like we'll be getting a CTS Coupe Concept at NAIAS after all. Sources say it will be "amazing" and we suspect a very good indication of the production version. Very tight wraps have been kept on the car, but insiders have been saying an NAIAS debut is likely for quite some time. Stay tuned!

From GM:
NEW PRODUCTION MODELS AND CONCEPTS HIGHLIGHT CADILLAC'S DESIGN AND INNOVATION AT THE NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

DETROIT – Carrying the momentum of its ongoing product renaissance – exemplified in the new, award-winning CTS – Cadillac accelerates into 2008 with significant moves that advance the brand's dramatic design and innovative performance technology. These initiatives are on display at the North American Auto Show, in a pair of new production models and a pair of forward-looking concepts:
  • 2009 CTS-V – the ultimate expression of Cadillac's performance, luxury and design
  • 2009 Escalade Hybrid – the first hybrid propulsion system applied to a large luxury SUV, delivering more than 50-percent improved fuel mileage in city driving
  • Myst Concept – a petroleum-free, hydrogen-powered vision of future luxury transportation
  • CTS Coupe Concept – a celebration of Cadillac's design heritage in the form of a personal, expressive sports coupe
"Cadillac's portfolio of technical solutions for luxury consumers around the globe has never been more diverse," said Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager. "Wrapping all these products together is the distinctive design that has powered Cadillac's resurgence."

The CTS-V, Myst Concept and CTS Coupe Concept make their world debuts at Detroit, representing different yet complementary aspects of Cadillac's advanced technical development and evolving design language. The Escalade Hybrid, beginning production in mid-2008, extends the desirability of the leading large luxury SUV.

That's gonna be a big coupe.

Maybe they'll rename it Eldorado or something when/if it becomes production.
Kind of like the 6 series is practically a 5 series coupe (or at least thats the closest 4 door sibling it has)

Probably, unless they shorten the wheelbase some. Perhaps this is one trick that we haven't seen from the Sigma platform yet?

The CTS Coupe is Cadillac's 6-Series fighter.

Re: NAIAS: Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept Coming

I figure a CTS Coupe would top out at $60,000 or so. Sounds pretty reasonable.

I'm sure they'll undercut BMW and MB. No doubt about that. I'm expecting even
more dramatic front and rear styling, that takes the CTS to the next level.
Can't wait to see it make it's debut.

My suggested top of the line CTS Coupe at $60,000 undercuts a base 6-series by $18,000.
Is that not enough?

a luxury coupe bigger than 3-series coupe and smaller than CL would be perfect in size

Re: NAIAS: Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept Coming

It's nice to see GM taking an interest to expanding the Cadillac line-up. I'm alittle bit disappointed that they can't impliment the same to Buick. Hopefully it won't be long.

Would this be the CTS-V Coupe? I'd buy that for $50-60k.

Re: NAIAS: Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept Coming

Well, Mike Simcoe, in charge of vehicle design for North America, and former designer working for Holden, has 'form' when it comes to turning a staid sedan into a swoopy coupe. Same wheelbase, 4" out of the total length, 2" off ride height, 2" off roof height - bingo.

I hasten to add, I don't think the CTS Coupe will bear any resemblance to the Monaro, for those North Americans horrified by Holden's boring styling. Just that it isn't that difficult to come up with a well-proportioned design, especially when the vehicle has short overhangs.

Re: NAIAS: Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept Coming

Motor Trend has seen it:

http://gminsidenews.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59338

This is what they said:

Quote:
"...the coupe is a knockout. It shares front-end sheetmetal with the sedan, but everything aft of the A-pillar is new. It has confident, chiseled lines, great proportions, and terrific stance. At the rear, Caddy's trademark vertical taillights tip over onto the top of the rear fender in a clever, yet subtle, nod to the tailfin."
This might be the profile, as seen on 60-Minutes a while back:

There are more on Autospies, which you can see here:
