Re: NAIAS 08: Toyota A-Bat
Apparently the only reason Toyota's truck department exists is to make GM's trucks even more awesome than they already are.

Haha. Well, at least Dodge's tailgates won't crack when you try loading stuff on them.

I kind of like it. It's quirky, and reminds me of the Isuzu Vehicross.
Toyota owns Isuzu now right? Could they have designed this?

Re: NAIAS 08: Toyota A-Bat
The Ridgeline and this A-bat are good ideas -- car based multifunction trucks. They are both horribly ugly, but GM needs something like this. A mini-Avalanche truck based upon the Lambda platform would be a great vehicle.

Agreed....I always thought they would have made a smaller Avalanche type truck with the Trailblazer/Envoy. In fact they did with the XUV but in hindsight it would have probably been better as an open bed with the midgate instead of the retractable roof. |

Re: NAIAS 08: Toyota A-Bat
Only difference would be that the Lambdas actually look good. It's a pity that the Envoy XUV was cancelled. That was a pretty good idea.

Re: NAIAS 08: Toyota A-Bat
What a nightmare, the thing looks like a Honda Ridgeline rip off mixed with something very ugly. It is a really ugly truck. It doesn't even have a crew cab. A light truck like the Ridgeline is a good idea for people who don't need heavy duty trucks but this is nothing but a poor rip off.

Re: NAIAS 08: Toyota A-Bat
I decided to give this another chance. But this is simply too ugly.
At least we now know what the outcome of the offspring of the Aztek and Ridgeline designers is. Another vehicle only the designers can love. And I can see Toyota building this and the Toyota sheep buying it and claiming it's beautiful. I should get paid to have to see these atrocities on the road. They're massively distracting in their sheer ugliness. |

Re: NAIAS 08: Toyota A-Bat
Interesting concept, with big blind spots, seems to legitimize the "ute" which pontiac is getting. Even toyota see's the need for something smaller that will get better mpg's and allow one to haul light loads, when needed with out having to buy a big truck. Big trucks are not needed buy 95% of the people that buy them they just think they want them. Well the large supply that the dealers have on lots are proof of that, don't get out of the truck Business GM, but just face the facts that the market is and will shrink, and get something to the market that will satisify what most people buy them for. I usually hear that they like the truck because it is higher and makes them feel safe, not so low to the ground like a car. So a smaller truck yet higher off the ground than a car will fill a comming market demand, three dollar gas is here to stay and its going nowhere but up. take yesterday it went from 2.96 here in pittsburgh to 3.09 in a matter of hours, why???? the price of a barrel went up only 65 cents, but no some one gets killed in pakistan and bang the the price is up. smaller GM smaller, bring on the VOLT.

Re: NAIAS 08: Toyota A-Bat
I think the designers were having a little fun with the grill.
I mean, the cross hair inner is a dodge trademark. The outer part looks like the bowtie, just only in larger proportions. And I'm not too familiar when toyota changed their logo to a T in an oval, which to me kinda mocks Ford, even though a few other foreign automakers have done this as well. Overall, It's pretty ugly. This truck is probably aimed for all the tree huggers that dont want a 12MPG tundra. |
